well its all relative if you ask me. My first pedals were all brand name. When I got my first few boutique pedals, I was literally in awe at the better sound and build quality. All the old boss/mxr pedals were bomb, but the stuff they put up now doesn't really hold a candle to the older generation stompboxes

I think that the pedals from the 80's are the best. Personal opinion.

In Topic: Frusciante is the reason why I'm a philosopher

These are the kind of discussions that Iva usually doesnt tend to like.

However...

Heidegger didn't really subscribe to the existential view that the world is without order. He was much more a phenomenologist than an existentialist. He was under the impression that the world has an order, but is in an order such that it can never be understood. Heidegger felt that once you uncover a truth about the world, another part of the world will become hidden. This is the "phenomenon" itself. I think that John sees music, at least his music, in the same sort of light. Once he has released an album he moves onto the next thing, tries a different style, as the old music he wrote doesn't show who he is. It is no longer the truth for him, it has become hidden.

To me the extreme structural rules of the Platonic/Socratic philosophy would be the epitome of hyperbole for John. Even going into the less structural Empirical and Metaphyiscal philosophy seems too structured for someone like John. BTW, I am by no means an expert on philosophy. I have a minor in it on my Bachelors degree, but it's been a while since I have really gotten into it. I am really more into the philosophy of Merleau-Ponty, its pretty much the only one that I remember alot about.

I see John as someone who would probably follow the philosophical writings of Martin Heidegger. If any of you hasn't read his work, I suggest it highly.

I put my bass all the way up, scoop my mids nearly out, treble around 60%, gain nearly full, with a hint of reverb. I feel that its quite close with my current practice setup. My '62 Strat hooked into my Marshall Valve-State.

But......

I typically don't look for an exact tone because John's tone comes mostly from his hands and heart, not his equipment.

I think that so far, it seems Josh's playing is alot like that of John's solo records, so I am perfectly content with it. I will get the album, and I will watch them live regardless of who the guitarist is. The Chilis will always have a huge appeal, they aren't the Red Hot John Frusciantes, they are the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
