fantastic news!! and what a coincidence:
i haven't listened to any JF solo music since the time when he released the empyrean until yesterday(!) when i've decided to listen to ALL OF THEM IN A ROW in one single day. Afterwards i was 100% back to jf-appreciation mode and wondered when i will hear some new music again.
now i see this.

Has it already been 10 years? Wow, time runs really fast.
I remember being very excited about this record and buying it in the summer of 2002 right when it came out. It was around the time the groundbreaking RPG "The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind" was released. Since i was totally obsessed with this game, By The Way kind of became the soundtrack to it. Both things are strongly connected in my memories. Good times.
By The Way is definitely one of my favorite RHCP records, because i'm a big fan of chords, melodies, backing vocals, sounds in a good pop production. In this regard BTW is one of the most creative and best executed records i have ever heard. I'm especially fond of the lesser known songs like 'Midnight', 'Tear', 'On Mercury', 'Minor Thing', 'Warm Tape'... and it has many great Frusciante moments.

selling my vinyl copy of The Empyrean last year was the biggest mistake of my life...
now that john is slowly turning into a new captain beefheart when it comes to releasing music, these vinyls will become super rare.
at least somebody else is happy now

The new Mars Volta record "Noctourniquet" has just leaked!
It's their first album since Tremulant that does not include John.
