It's cool that you just came back to this board after being away for a couple years, as I recently just did the same thing. You kinda forget about this place when there's no real news involving John, it looks as if this board is pretty dead at the moment. Hopefully an announcement of a new solo album in the near future will change that.

Anyways, looks like a pretty cool site that you're starting there Freyr. You've always seemed like a really interesting guy to me, with a lot of good insight and knowledge to share with this world. Keep it up.

Mike D, I must say that I am very shocked to see you, as a musician, call Brendan's Death Song bland while praising nearly every other song on the record. To me, Brendan's Death Song is far and away the best song on this new album. The melody is stunning, and the way it builds and builds to an explosive climax where the band really lets loose is a spectacular thing to listen to. I enjoy most of the songs on the album, but the band sounds constrained in Rick Rubins tight little musical box. They're perfectly constructed pop tunes that are nice to listen to, but don't pack that emotional punch. Brendan's Death Song pummels you with emotion and explodes it's way out of the box, which is what makes it so great. It's easily the best song on I'm With You for me.

I do also enjoy most of the other songs though. Monarchy of Roses, Did I Let You Know, and Even You Brutus are all great.

This album really grows on you. At first I was not overly impressed, but now after listening to it a bunch of times I'm really enjoying it. There's a lot of interesting songs on this album. Josh does a really nice job, he's not the songwriter that John is, nor is he the guitar-god that John is, but he's a unique musician who adds a lot to this album. His textural guitar playing and his dream-like background vocals add an interesting element to the Chili Peppers. And Flea and Chad absolutely shine consistently on every single song, as they typically do. The first three songs in particular are pure gold, Brendan's Death Song is one of the most beautiful Chili Peppers songs ever released.

I like it. It's really grown on me, at first I thought it was just okay but now I think it's a really solid song. It's got a great groove to it.

The only thing I'm disappointed with is the lack of Josh's footprint on the song. Virtually no backing vocals at all, we all know he's a great, unique singer! He's such a talented musician and you'd really like to see his influence shine through. With that said, this is just one song and I'm almost certain that there will be a bunch of songs on the new album where Josh really shines, whether its with his guitar playing or with his vocals or maybe with the piano and other instruments as well. Can't wait for August 30th (or likely before when it leaks online).
