If you want I can pull some trigonometric equations, geometric proofs of exactly WHERE he steps, that's not a problem, but it's pointless for several reasons. Don't look at the pedalboard like it never changes, 'cause it does. Second, John also does backing vocals so he needs certain pedals closer to the mic stand, or for specific combinations etc. I'm not saying it's not the first pedal in the chain, but you just can't be sure from pics like that. Micro amp is not a HUGE tone sucker, I've tried it and it does change your tone. It is not transparent, just a slight tone changer. And if you really want to go at it with the pedal location, let's see which pedal can give you a sonic response like that heard in the video: DS2- I don't think so; Big Muff-ummm... no; the mosrite fuzz- guess what, NO; MOOG exp pedals-guess again... Believe me, it's the micro amp.

I'd say he uses the Micro Amp for the boost and not for the signal loss. The Micro Amp is a tone changing booster, unlike the Keeley Katana or the MXR MC-401, it's almost like an EQ with a preset, so the only thing you can control is the amount of gain/volume.

around 1:45 he turns off the Micro Amp, you can't really see it, but it's the only pedal that can respond in such a way.

If you look at John's board, he has a boost pedal, the MXR Micro Amp. Also, the Big Muff is one loud bastard and the WH10 has the volume/gain boost. From the top of my head, those are basically the pedals he uses most for boosting the signal.

His playing is too unpredictable for Dave Lee to have a booster on the rack, or for Rat to boost it on the mixing board, I've never seen anybody play around on the mixer just seems redundant to me.

The first one is such a clean recording, and by clean I mean the neatness of the overall arrangement. The beginning is perfect for a shampoo commercial, not meant as an insult, just sounds like that to me, I have a specific way of describing things, thus I'm usually left misunderstood. I liked the trippy bit, but disliked the ending solo, not that it wasn't good, it was a bit too cluttered. And my comment may sound negative, harsh or confusing, but I liked it quite a bit ;)

I have a WF10, but I don't like it... It's a John-style pedal, but it just does not suit my style. Can't even sell it because it broke down, stupid thing.
But my CryBaby has been with me since the beginning, first pedal I ever bought, and it's been great. I've changed the capacitor and put a TBP switch and it's just great (except for the fact that the switch is rock hard and awfully loud and clicky, but that's just the cheap switch, nothing to do with the wah itself

Has any of you tried the Real McCoy eqwahlyzer (the RMC8)? I've heard it's a nifty little thing, and quite adjustable with the 5-band EQ
