John on the cover of Crossbeat, March 2012 (Japanese friends, help!)

John is on the cover of the March 2012 issue of the Japanese magazine Crossbeat, which previously had a lot of features on him and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There's a feature this time, too - an interview. One would assume it's something they saved from earlier, as there hasn't been a JF interview done after January 2009.

If anyone from Japan already has this, scans would be appreciated, a lot!

Carissa's Wierd cover of Curtains

20 December 2011 - 08:46 PM

Just in case you have not heard this before. Next to Bob Forrest's cover of Dying Song, this is the only significant cover of one of John's songs (as in: done by an influential band, albeit an indie one). Carissa's Wierd covered Curtains on their 2003 collection of cover songs titled Scrapbox, which is now out of print. Thoughts?

* The band name is really written the way I wrote it, it's not an error.

Leeni

Has anyone here listened to her? She's from Seattle, USA and she combines gameboy-composed tunes with pretty good vocals. I don't even know how I'd classify this, but it's awesome.

For everyone who's nostalgic about the computers and play systems of 15-25 years ago, this might be fun.

Red Hot Chili Peppers inducted into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!

07 December 2011 - 08:54 PM

After having been nominated for the second time - the first time for induction in 2010, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are to be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. The results have been announced earlier today and the other inductees are Guns N' Roses Beastie Boys, the Small Faces/Faces, Donovan and Laura Nyro.

Here's the official statement from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

The founding members of the band have already reacted to the news - Flea on his blog and Anthony Kiedis in an interview, and while Flea mentioned John by himself, Kiedis was asked about him by the interviewer. Here are the excerpts from what they said.

Flea, on his redhotchilipeppers.com blog:

It also makes me think of something I think of everyday anyways. Of John Frusciante, the virtuoso musician and songwriter who gave so much to our band. Without him, we would not be going to the hall of fame. He wrote countless great things with us, played an infinite amount of stunning things, and taught us how to be a great band. He helped lift us to a much higher level, he is the greatest. We connected deeply for many years, and he left our band with many gifts.

Anthony Kiedis, for Rolling Stone:

Do you think that John Frusciante will come to the induction?
Ummm... Wow. It would be a guess on my behalf on whether or not he'll come. I can't imagine that he would, but it's a "you never know" kind of thing. I haven't talked to him in quite a while. I don't know where he's at these days. He'll obviously be more than welcome, and embraced if he does. If he doesn't, that's cool too.

If you're interested in going to Cleveland to see the induction on April 14th 2012, the tickets for the ceremony are 50 and 100$ each and you can find more information here: http://rockhall.com/...012-inductions/

Alina Orlova

06 December 2011 - 05:12 PM

Does anyone here like Alina Orlova? I can't remember how I came accross her music, but her style is incredible - poetry sung in Lithuanian, Russian and English; as if one of the Russian "author song" singers e.g. Bulat Okuzhdava had a child with someone like Vashti Bunyan or Joni Mitchell.
