The point of this thread is to recommend bands that you like and that you think everyone else might like. Try to also recommend artists that are not very well known, because it's always cool to check out new music. I know that there are many people here from around the world, so feel free to recommend bands from your own countries.

I recommend City and Colour for anyone who is into mellow acoustic music. It's the solo work of Dallas Green, vocalist/guitarist for the band Alexisonfire.
I'm not a fan of Alexisonfire, but this guy's solo music is pretty nice. The lyrics and his voice are great, and the acoustic guitar work is impressive. Good mellow music.

And I also think everyone should check this woman out: www.myspace.com/katflint
It's more acoustic/folk music..but I really like her songs. Especially "Fearsome Crowd"...I think it's beautiful. I love this song.
"I prefer to learn everything through music. If you want divinity, the music in every human being and their love for music is pretty much it. It's the big indication of their spirituality and their ability to love and make love, or feel pain or joy, and really manifest it, really be real." - Jeff Buckley

"He knows he's hot as hell......he doesn't wiggle his tongue at the mic in Closer because it's artistic."

The Raconteurs are awesome (as cate mentioned before) I just got their album and it is lush!

Wolfmother are another cool new band-rocky and a bit 70s sounding

The Fratellis are cool too, very upbeat, similar kind of sound to the Artic Monkeys, but different (sorry if that doesnt make sense!)

The Guillemots are awesome. They are a new band who have a few different sounds, some mellow and some more upbeat but it is a fresh sound-they dont sound like anyone else thats around (well, that i have heard of anyway!)

Temple of the Dog = Cool!

Keep it in that forum then, don't bring any silly personal issues in here.

I have been listening to a lot of Talking Heads lately. I recommend them very much.

Nothing personal about it. I find this hilarious.

Gnarls Barkley is pretty good. I suggest getting St. Elsewhere.

Good for you.

I heard a song from Micheal Rother's old band Harmonia, its electro music but without the use of synth, it sounded awesome, I'm going to pick some up.

Michael Rother's solo music is fantastic. Flammende Herzen and Esperanza are my favourite albums of his.
His most recent stuff is pure electronic and absolutely amazing.
I won't bind my strings to you, but I'll build my world beside you
