The point of this thread is to recommend bands that you like and that you think everyone else might like. Try to also recommend artists that are not very well known, because it's always cool to check out new music. I know that there are many people here from around the world, so feel free to recommend bands from your own countries.

Begin!

Check out The Casual Dots! It's a rather young band from Washington DC, though it's members all have had long careers in different bands. Their first (and the only one by far) self-titled album was produced by Guy Picciotto from Fugazi, and recorded at Inner Ear Studios - the same place where DC EP was recorded. The band consists of Christina Billotte(vocals, guitar), Kathi Wilcox(guitar) and Steve Dore on drums.

From Amazon.com: "Their minimalist sound, anchored by a propulsive backbeat and weaving melodic interplay between the guitars, provides a sonic platform for Christina's cool and distinctive vocal style. The result is a raw pop sound with a uniquely angular and lean sensibility."

You can also download the song "Clocks" here, but IMHO it's not the most incredible song on the album!

Hope you'll like them as I do!
*shine on, you crazy diamond*

Floating down, the sound resounds
Around the icy waters underground
Jupiter and Saturn Oberon Miranda
And Titania Neptune Titan
Stars can frighten...

Here's a 70s band that i don't think many people have heard of. If you like Led Zep & Metallica you'd like Captain Beyond. Get their self titled album. It ROCKS!!!

I'll be sure to check out what you guys recommend. If you can think of other artists, by all means, post them here.

Definetely! Temple of the dog and Mother love bone are two of my favorite bands, ever. Especially Temple of the dog. Too bad there is only one album (which I have, dig this, on CASSETTE!!) but perhaps therein is the appeal, je ne sais pas!

Thanks for the recommendations. I like this thread. I'll have to check out the bands everyone suggested.

The only group I've heard of in this thread so far is Can. I like the song "Bring Me Coffee Or Tea"..but I definitely need to hear more..so thanks for reminding me.

Here are my recommendations tonight:

Mark Lanegan..very talented songwriter. I like his duet album he did with Isobel Campbell from Belle & Sebastian.

Red Sparowes..there are some beautiful, intense moments in some of their songs.
They have a myspace. Only two songs are on it though --- http://myspace.com/redsparowes

more to come. I'll add some later.
"I prefer to learn everything through music. If you want divinity, the music in every human being and their love for music is pretty much it. It's the big indication of their spirituality and their ability to love and make love, or feel pain or joy, and really manifest it, really be real." - Jeff Buckley

"He knows he's hot as hell......he doesn't wiggle his tongue at the mic in Closer because it's artistic."

beautiful music...

and check Blonde Readhead out!
I guess there was one performance video where John plays together with that band...

and you can download a live record on transmission3000.com

Paul... what a ridiculous name for a cat!... Paul... that's a person's name! (Adam West)

They only have one, i think, and it's self titled.

Also a great band from the 60s creedance clearwater revival.I love them too much.

They only have the one album. The band Temple Of The Dog were members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden (Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder etc). I don't think they ever toured or functioned as a band at all. I think the band was pretty much some kind of communal grieving process over their dead friend - who also just happened to be the singer from Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood. A tad confuzzling!

Cate I just read a The Raconteurs review today and was thinking "hmmmm.. Posted Image". It's Jack White's band isn't it? I love Jack White's music!

when you recommend a band you should kinda of give an idea what genre they are, what they sound like, as best you can, to know if it's something you might wanna check out or not.

The Trews are a kinda small Canadian rock band you might wanna check out.

If you're into Ska music at all, check out Streetlight Manifesto. If you don't know what ska is, it's just kinda of upbeat music with like, lots of trumpets, and catchy guitar, and just makes you feel like dancing,
