Now, Iva and I have been doing some talking via MSN, and we both agree that "Wet Sand" sounds an awful lot like "I'm Around."

Well, mainly, the very first two chords of the song. I hear those notes, and I immediately expect John to sing "You know I'm around you."

Upon discovering that we felt similarly on this issue, Iva and I decided to start a thread about it because inquiring minds want to know, are we the only ones who feel this way?

Just to confirm this. In fact, when Cristina mentioned it, I shivered, because I remember thinking the same the first time I heard the song!

I agree with you. The two chords at the beginning are G and D it then goes to Eminor (the fourth chord on I'm Around) and finally Bminor I think.

The guitar does sound similar but I think the overall feel to the song is different. Good observation though I thought the very same.

I thought the same when I heard it for the first time. I had the similar feeling when I heard intro of We Believe for the first time. I thought I was listening A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence

And Flea is arguing in the Kerrang interview that John did not have a major influence on the album

Whoa! and I thought I was the only one!

and another one: the intro to Desecration Smile sounds a lot like the intro to A Corner and some other song as well, was discussing this with someone, but he nor I could figure out which one..

a whole lot of John-influenced tracks, yes

:)

To be serious: I think it's ok to copy other artists, as everything in music has already been done. There's nothing you can do with music which has not been done before...

*and shame on me, but which album is I'm around on?*

oh good i'm not the only that thinks this. but even on by the way the intro to can't stop sounds like the intro to jeff buckley's 'eternal life'.

i'm around is on inside of emptiness. but shame on me for having to check!

I guess so to a certain extent, I know what your saying.

On another couple of listens to his song I think rhythmically it has more of a relation to Time Goes Back.

I LOVE this song. I definitely thought it was more of a John song..but I didn't think of "I'm Around" at first..I'll have to listen to both again back to back and see what you guys are talking about.

My favorite part of the whole song is John's scream at the end on the "Yeah!" part.
I think there is a lot of feeling to this song..especially near its ending. And I really like the lyrics.
"I prefer to learn everything through music. If you want divinity, the music in every human being and their love for music is pretty much it. It's the big indication of their spirituality and their ability to love and make love, or feel pain or joy, and really manifest it, really be real." - Jeff Buckley

"He knows he's hot as hell......he doesn't wiggle his tongue at the mic in Closer because it's artistic."

The outro to this song doesnt get much closer to bliss. The way the melody changes and and the way John and AK harmonise, is just amazing to listen to

on the one hour commentary i have for the album john says that the intro of snow is pretty similar to a hendrix riff, then he plays the difference. so anyways just goes to show music derives from other music i guess.

i'm pretty sure i read in an interview with john somewhere that wet sand was originally going to be kept for a future solo album, but he decided to use it in the peppers instead.
i love the how john screams just before the guitar solo at the end.
