Dutch film maker Bram van Spluteren was interviewed by Shalhevet Dvir for The Chili Source and asked a lot of questions about filming the Red Hots in 1987 and 1990-1992, as well as John in 1994. Here are the answers concerning John:
The Chili Source: What do you think of the change that John has been through over the years?
Bram van Spluteren: Hmm, I don’t know what to say. He has just overcome his addictions it seems and has become a more mature and responsible person. In the early days he was a very crazy and manic person, a good musician too, but also a bit too intense maybe.
TCS: Did John play you songs that didn’t get into Niandra LaDes And Usually Just A T-Shirt during the '94 interview?
Van Spluteren: I think so, yes, he did some songs from when he was 14 or so? Did not he say that? did you ever see the whole 40 minute piece about me visiting him when he was a junkie? Everything he played was in there. There are no outtakes.
TCS: Do you think you will be able to film RHCP again in the future?
Van Spluteren: Maybe John. I already requested that but, for the moment, he doesn’t want do it. Without John the band is not that interesting anymore for me. Maybe at some point I can film when they are down and out, burned out rock stars, that could be interesting. I know you don’t think so, hahaha!

I thought that was a bit cold from Bram, that last response. I cringe at aspects of the current state of the band but in no way do I reflect on them like that
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to always tell the difference.

The idea of another interview with John after so much time has passed would be pretty interesting. I'm sure the interview from 1994 would be brought up alot, which could be part of the reason why John declined.

Funny enough, my take on this is that he simply doesn't want (or isn't allowed to...?) give interviews to anyone, for a specific period or time; or perform. I might be horribly wrong, though.
As for Red Hots being what Bram suggested in near future - they already are that. Look at their target group, album sales that do not depend on quality of their material in any way, fanatical community.

I hope you are right Iva. I never really thought that he could be waiting for a specific amount of time. Only time will tell

I for one am interested in where the Chilis will go. I'm With You kind of stepped in a direction that was new for them but did not fully embrace it. Here's hoping the just go off the deep end on their new album. I'm so sick and tired of hearing them churn out top 40 pop tunes all the time when they have a classically trained jazz funk bass guru like flea and a whacked out skitzo guitar player like josh. Not to mention chads tech freak drum playing. They could be making some very cutting edge hip new music. Yet..we are stuck with rick rubins pop tune obsession.
I mean..I like a good pop song like the next guy. Just wish the Chilis would really stop this whole "rock star" thing while they can.
David Bowie did the same thing in the 90s. He peaked in popularity throughout the 80's making dance pop tunes. He got old. Weirded out. Started a hard rock band and then went on to do weird electronic music opening for NIN in the 90s.
Robert Plant has been making good music for the past decade. I think there is hope for the modern day rock star as long as they admit they are old are say no to hyping themselves up like some Nike commercial. RHCP had their time in the spotlight. I'm With You is a reminder that they are changing and moving on. I hope they make a new album within the next two years that is far different then any other album they have ever made.
I went way off topic. Apologies.

Somewhere in between the sludge was a poorly written tattoo of a Chili Pepper lyric I saw on a cheerleader in high school.
