Factory of Faith is bringing me in. The almighty SECOND track of an album. i'm beginning to feel the same twinges of excitement i got when i was 17 anticipating Stadium Arcadium.... getting chills! I didnt think i'd be this excited cus john left but i remembered that way back when i first started listening to music i bought uplift mofo party plan, one hot minute and mothers milk - i got into the chili's for what the chili's were ..not for john alone (i.e. i was chili's fan waaay before i was a john fan - regardless of how much i like john's stuff now)

I wonder if any of the lyric content will be john-related.. the current RHCP lineup are gonna get sick of all the interviewers asking about john's departure!

I like the album cover. It's very stark and distinct when compared to the previous albums which are either complete fantasy (ie. Stadium Arcadium) or sort of manipulated landscapes/photographs such as Californication, BSSM and By the Way.

It doesn't fit with the music of JF's Chili Peppers and I suppose we're yet to see whether it gels with the music of this new era. But as an image alone, I likes.

I like it too, I like to see the pill as a "pill of love" and to think the fly is there because life and is not that simple. The fly symbolize the dark and the mysterious.

Compared with the other covers, I think it's the best with Californication.

Edit : pillow was remplaced by pill, thanks to Fenix.

I'm looking for youtube videos of RHCP live with Josh Klinghoffer on lead guitar, has anyone found any videos? I wanna know if they're still red hot when they're live.
"Take that fucking sign down." -John Frusciante

"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

Not that great... Sounds quite bland to me.

It's the first single so I wasn't expected it to be mind-blowingly original but I can't find anything to grab onto - I mean although Dani California was similarly the least interesting track on Stadium Arcadium, at least there was some intricate modular synth work and a new idea for the bridge.

The Chili Peppers is a somewhat commercial environment for someone like John or Josh to walk into but John seemed able to flourish within the boundaries, making a strong mark on music that was a little more clean and safe than that which he writes on his own. I hope Josh has been able to maintain his experimentalism too but 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie' isn't enough to judge by. So I wait for the album.

I don't like it. Very weak song, bland is a good adjective. I'm also waiting to hear the rest, but so far, I'm disappointed.

I really like it, i think the bass line is great and the Chorus sounds very 60's beach boys esque or something. When i read the lyrics i thought in places they were a little weak although in the context of the song an vocal melody i thought they were good. I doubt this will be my favourite song on the album apart from Californication my favourite songs have all been non-singles. I see this as kind of their danceable rock/funk song of the album similar to Hump De bump which i wasn't a massive fan of but i think this is a much stronger song than that. I'm so happy its a decent song i was so nervous it was going to be terrible haha.

Great bass line, not the worst guitar ever by Josh, mediocre lyrics, and yes, a bland feel overall. I still consider it good music.

I like it. It's really grown on me, at first I thought it was just okay but now I think it's a really solid song. It's got a great groove to it.

The only thing I'm disappointed with is the lack of Josh's footprint on the song. Virtually no backing vocals at all, we all know he's a great, unique singer! He's such a talented musician and you'd really like to see his influence shine through. With that said, this is just one song and I'm almost certain that there will be a bunch of songs on the new album where Josh really shines, whether its with his guitar playing or with his vocals or maybe with the piano and other instruments as well. Can't wait for August 30th (or likely before when it leaks online).

The bassline is the first thing that stands out to me. Overall it's an okay song, much similar to their earlier work, I was expecting something a bit different. Maybe this is their "safe" track?

Like a weak b-side of Stadium-Arcadium...
There are good parts. Flea is good, Chad is good, AK is good out of the chorus which is very boring (but we're used to that) but Josh is too much absent even if the guitar is nice... I thought Josh would bring the inspiration which seemed to miss to the band at the end, but I excpected too much.

Still, I can't wait to hear the new album because it's not bad and I'm still curious.

Also, maybe it's stupid, but I'm happy to get a new proof that John was really the guy who bring something to the band. People who like the rhcp without knowing John will probably search to know why the new album is weaker and search more about John's solo albums.

PS : I already think it will be th last rhcp album.

You do have a point, but I don't think Flea will let that happen.

Heard it, was curious. What the...?!

The drums sound like a drum machine, you just don't get the feeling that Chad Smith is actually on this song, it feels like a random hipster came around from somewhere thinking he could play an instrument while he was actually just high on a weird cocktail. Anthony's vocals are...out of control. Before this, despite his limited singing abilities, he could control his voice and make it fun and likeable; and right now, he's like a village idiot conducting a kids' choir. I can barely hear the guitar and when I do, it reminds me of something else. The bass is the only good thing in it. Out of the whole song, after five forced listens, I remember only the word "hey".

To sum it up, it's somehow...amateurish and the only good thing about it is Flea. I'm...negatively surprised. Despite having said that I don't care about what they do next, I thought it'd actually live up to their standards.

It also annoys me that they're trendwhoring bigtime...African stuff is hip in their subculture, isn't it? Alternative visual artists are hip too, aren't they? Perhaps drum machine like drums and an unfortunate mix are another thing that's hip?

As for the last album debate, there are two things that make me believe this:

http://www.musicrada...a-tattoo-162375

http://invisible-mov...magazine-france (scroll down to the comment by AE...)

This band (or, more likely, their entourage and the entire establishment built around them) betrayed people's intelligence and common sense many times in the last five years or so, so why wouldn't they be hiding more from the fans?

Meh. Wish things were the way they used to be, minus all the insane hype that one cannot do without nowadays. Recession, I blame you.
