Copying and pasting this from the site because I'm a lazy-ass tonight. :)

Catherine Ringer - Ring'n'RollJohn appears on a single track on French artist Catherine Ringer's new album, Ring'n'Roll; which was produced by his friend and the Wu-Tang Clan mastermind, RZA. He's soloing on the track titled Prends-Moi (Take Me), which is listed as number 5 on the album.

You can hear the track here.

Here are a couple of review snippets:
RHCP's guitarist, John Frusciante, adds a remarkable contribution.
(Come4News)

Catherine rocks on the more up-tempo tracks, which benefit from the sporadic help of John Frusciante, ex-guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Moustique)

You can (and should) buy the album if you like what you heard.

If you're interested or if you want to sing-a-long, here's the lyrics.

*Many thanks to Laurent and Sophie for the news and a huge apology for not having posted this a week ago - life's busy sometimes. This website's getting to its usual speed of updating ASAP.

I don't know if I should give my honest opinion, cause I am choking. The guitar sounded good, no doubt about that, but the song made me laugh seriously. I liked the guitar and the darkness of the singers voice, but the rest...

It must be my autistically narrowed perception, but when people TRY to sound sexy or something of that nature, it makes me seriously laugh. Like those groans and moans the singer was doing... To me they sounded just stubid and I can't understand the point, cause even my unperfect pitch of that nature could still tell that that moaning certainly was faked. Maybe John's guitar wasn't flaming enough...? :D

Also my narrow French skills might have to do something with how I took the song, since I understood only "ta guitarre", "prends-moi" and "ce soir" and made my conclusions from summing them up... Plus because of that I was seeing in my head this French woman in a silk dressing gown doing cheesy movements, which made the whole thing a pretty bothering experience. Didn't see John avec la guitarre there ce soir though...

But there was this sound of a leaving car... Hmmm... Maybe some drama in the lovers nest? Maybe he was in the car thinking: Time to move over, Casanova! :)

And PS. I sure hope he didn't leave the guitarre there, even though that woman was in pain moaning after that! :D

I read that Catherine Ringer wanted to call Missy Eliott for the album, but she was busy somewhere else and this is why she asked RZA to produce the album in LA.
So... it seems that RZA introduced her to Frusciante, but that it was not what she expected for her album at first.

I don't like Catherine Ringer that much and I don't like the lyrics of this song, but if you don't know her work with the band Rita Mitsouko, don't judge to fast. It was a very atypical band.

Maybe I look that Rita Mitsouko up sometime. I actually liked the singers voice. Just didn't like this particular song with it's cheesiness and moans... :)

If you're curious :

This was a hit in 1984 :
This is a more recent hit :

This one is in English :
But also in French :

I personally don't like those songs (and I don't even speak about the videos), but I think there is something in. This is not mellow commercial French variety.

Hey, thanks a lot! I actually liked that hit from the eighties. I am dancing to it now. The newer hit I didn't like musically, but Catherine certainly has a very deep and powerfull voice that I like. I listened also some of Rita Mitsouko's other songs on Youtube and some of the songs from the eighties were actually pretty good. The newer stuff (couple of songs that I listened) weren't as good in my opinion.

Eighties videos hilarious as eighties videos... but still cool sounds to - be on - neon... :)

Here are the lyrics as I heard them:

Tu m'entends ?
Je sais que tu m'écoutes
Tu ne prendras pas ta guitare, ce soir
Tu me prendras moi
Moi qui prends si bien la lumière
Aux heures tendres, à mon grain de peau
Tu ne prendras pas ta voiture
C'est sûr, tu me prendras moi
Car tu me prendras moi
Je vais pleurer si tu te barres
Ce soir on va s’aimer encore
Comme tant de fois, où on s’adore
Allez, prends-moi dans tes bras

I (approximately) translated them in English in case you were interested ;)

Do you hear me?
I know you're listening to me
You won't take your guitar, tonight
You will take me
Me who take the light so well
At the tender time, to my skin texture
You won't take your car
That's sure, you will take me
Me who convey your caresses so well
At the tender time
The two-backs beast
Loves to hear the warmest words
Even if I also take you
You who lie so well
Who enchant me with a smile
At the time when my idiot heart trembles
We're together, even if it's not true
Tonight you won't take your guitar
Because you will take me
I will cry if you run off
Tonight we'll love each other once again
Like so many times, when we adore each other
Come on, take me in your arms

I like the guitar but I find the lyrics quite vulgar...

...given that someone said that the song is about the dead guitarist of the band she was in, the vulgar lyrics makes the whole thing a bit creepy.

Thanks for having taken your time to translate this. :)

I also thought that if we consider she's speaking about his dead husband, that lyrics take a totally different meaning. It's creepy in the sense that she seems to still live with his ghost on earth. But I'd rather say it's sad, difficult, and beautiful at the same time, like if she was projecting herself in the afterlife.

Except that on the video "Cleobule" posted on the coment of the news on I-M.net, when explaining the lyrics, she don't speak about his husband but seems to find herself that the lyrics are just very simple.

The video (in French) : http://player.canalplus.fr/#/471977
(look at it, it's funny because she's speaking about John and imitating him)

I will try and listen to the song tomorrow, I've just got my computer back from repair and it's telling me I need to download adobe flash player which is doesn't want to tonight so I can't be bothered messing around with it. I'm curious to hear what its like. :)
Well it seems like times elapsed and I've stabbed life in the back I'm searching for what it means to never be anything.

She said that John is an awful character and that he is impressive when he plays guitar :P
But she didn't talk about her husband, she just said that the song is about a woman talking to a man.
I read on Wikipedia that she performed in pornographic movies when she was younger; this would "explain" the vulgar lyrics.

If you want to watch this video, do it quickly because the videos on this site are deleted after a week or two!

So, Cleobule's translation wasn't accurate and she was actually annoyed? Wow. O_O

No, because she doesn't say he was awful, but I suppose zzz wanted to say "awesome" or "wonderful" ;). To be more precise, she says "sacré personnage", which is difficult to translate, but on this context, "quite a charachter" seems to be the most appropriate idiom.

Oh, sorry  When I searched for a translation of "sacré personnage" I found "awful..." but when I search for "awful", it's a totally different meaning! Térence is right, in this context it is more "awesome", it's not pejorative at all!

Thanks. I was surprised for a bit then, as no one other than Macy Gray (who's a bad person, from everything I've heard...e.g. she got applauses and love in my city, later she said that all people here are ugly and fat?!) ever said a bad thing about John.
