So I'm looking for a second dirt box to go with my DS-2. Initially I was sure about getting the Muff. But I saw a demo of the RAT 2 doing a pretty good mimic of the over-the-top Muff fuzz tone. On top of that it's so versatile that I can even use it as a boost or overdrive. Now if I get the Muff I'd have to get an OD later as well. But I'm willing to do that if you guys think that the RAT can't really play the role of a fuzz pedal. But a smaller pedalboard is always appreciated so....what do you guys think?

P.S: I'm from India so there's no chance of getting any hands-on experience on either. I'll just have to blind-order online unfortunately and I don't be caught wanting later on.

Thanks.

Not a fan of either. I prefer the Keely FuzzHead, or the Arbiter FuzzFace (even the Jimi Hendrix fuzz version of the Arbiter is pretty good, but I'm a sucker for Germanium fuzzes). Just make sure if you get an Arbiter, you test the exact unit you buy, since quality varies a ton in germanium transistors.

And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

I like Ge fuzzes too but I don't think they'll have enough gain for me for what I need now. Plus, Ge fuzzzes being as finicky as they are, I'm not very keen to buy one off the internet. Not to mention the Fuzz Head is about $100 too expensive for me. :(
But thanks for your tip. :)

Go for that Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face if you can try one in person; it's basically a silicon-transistor clone of the Arbiter fuzz, modded to get that over-the-top Jimi Hendrix sound. Try one in person first though.

That'll certainly be heavy enough for you, but if it's a "thick" fuzz you're looking for, I guess go down the Big Muff route. Just never, ever, ever get a Double Muff. They're awful.

Analogman Sun Face NKT-275 with sun dial.
Ge transistors based on the Fuzz face with a bias pot. Internal fuzz adjustment pot to get clean tones when you roll off the volume on your axe.

Awesome sounding fuzz with any setup/rig.

Soda Meiser by Devi Ever, or Torns Peaker as well. Devi Ever single fuzz pedals are all 97$ each and are hand made with good parts
