"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

And to respond to the thread: whatever he decides to do, whenever he's comfortable with it, is OK. If he would like to present his music to an audience, eventually, that would be splendid.

OT: I myself would love to see john do a solo tour as we all would. But without a band, thats depending on him; i dont see it happening. He got nothing to prove to anyone, and as we all know he would feel the need to prove anyhing to anyone even if he had to.
He knows he can just sit in his appartement and just make music without anyone interupting him. No pressure

But if Iva's a fanatic, she sure hides it well. She just seems to have grown up in a more private society where it's considered incredibly rude to make inferences about other people's lives. Just bear that in mind when posting and when reading her criticisms. (Similarly, she should probably find this fairly offensive, but you're not gonna get the point if I don't put this here, and if that happens you'll just end up upset with her. So here it is anyway.)

I feel the same. Iva, with completely no disrespect, "correcting" that was completely unnecessary. I mean we've all been affected by John's music the same way, and have all come together on this forum to discuss it -- and I agree completely with Luuucaas' point about you have to come to John's 'defence' wherever you see fit.

Since you obviously want this to be personal, why not?
No, I just find you to be an emotional invalid with either Asperger's or autism because you're interested in way too many details about people you have no connections with, yet you're able to insult a person you do have some sort of a connection with (e.g. you spoke to them privately) because you're scared of anything that could emotionally impact your system. And that's something people get treated for.
Lucas, I don't see how I'm defending John's integrity, either. I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do, which may or may not be in line with what I actually think. This is a huge responsibility. If I'm maintaining his official website, reporting oddities and violations I see on the Internet and so on, should I go out there and say that he's a selfish idiot or something? Nah. I also have no right to say that because I don't know him in person and I don't know any of the reasons he has for doing what he does. Neither do you. Neither do most of the people here.
Every next thread where people with less social skills and social intelligence than me try to dissect my neurons shall be closed. It's simple. This is not an Iva discussion board (yikes), this is a John Frusciante discussion board.
Michael, sorry for ignoring you. I explained the thing in the third and fourth paragraph.

That was 6 six years ago, but I don't know if he really would feel that opposed to how he himself felt in '05 about the issue. What do you guys think?

Yea, just because he hasn't played a show promoting the empyrean doesn't mean he won't in the future, that's what this whole thread is concerning.

Anybody else share the opinion that Live shows are somewhat overrated? I'm starting to feel like there's this infatuation with it being about being in the presence of the musician and not the music. I'm totally scrambled up in the head lately so I can't really formulate this thought the way I want to but yeah, I love seein my favorite musicians live but it's just gettin to be not worth it with the money side a things. The more I play my own waves and listen to my favorite shit in the settings I love I'm just not as into the live thing as I used to be. Eh. Don't know really. I'm only willing to go fairly short lengths to see anybody play live anymore.

I do sometimes think of John as more of a classical artist (not classical music but adhering more to the enigmatic artists of the past who allowed their work to keep speaking.) In that sense, think that a famous artist did not generally always want to repaint their masterpieces in front of an audience nor would it be possible! If they tried it would be beautiful and surely the resulting artwork would touch people but it also would be going beyond how being an artist used to be, and that way was perfectly intelligent and understandable.
When I thought about it just now I also realized that John may or may not want the work of he and his friends and peers on the studio albums to really stand on their own. All of his albums have been about capturing dynamic and brilliant performances by himself and other musicians in a way that allows their work to breathe and speak differently each new time listening to them rather than feeling the same --- that's really really difficult to accomplish.
