Hi,

I am wondering on which songs (especially solo songs) John used the Gretsch White Falcon? Does anyone have any ideas from interviews or the sound itself?

I know from the Guitar World 1999 interview that it was used on Californication, Otherside and also the melody lines on This Velvet Glove.

It was also used for the solo on Tear.

Anything else? was it used on Going Inside or was it just for show in the video?

I would be surprised if John had not used it on any of his solo work.

It is hard to tell just by the sound on a recording because of the production of the music. Live clips, even without the video, the sound is much more distinct. For some reason Away and Anywhere has always sounded like a white falcon to me.

i presume a lot of his solo stuff might have been written using it

its hard to tell cos it sounds a lot like a fender. while it is a hollowbody its cleans are very plain and it can be quite twangy (like fenders)

I believe Dosed was recorded on it.

You are right the melody lines and solo of Dosed definitely sound like A Falcon on the bridge pickup...it has a very similar sound to the Slane Castle Californication intro. Nice find!
