Sorry if this was already posted or touched on somewhere else, but I read in a review of Kanye West's recent album (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) that John plays guitar in the background, but I did not see his name on the track listing. The guitar work is similar to John's and I believe the album was co-produced by RZA.
Here is the blog that mentioned John worked on the song

I saw that the other day and I had no idea what it was about as John is not listed as a musician:

Perhaps he was just sampled?

^^^I can buy into that theory, the guitar work just sounds spectacularly similar to something John would create. Or more likely maybe John's style is rubbing off on RZA. Either way, very good song.

I don't think it sounds like Frusciante, it doesn't quite have his sound...
But I was listening to Wu Tang Clan's album '8 Diagrams' today and there are 3 or 4 songs where I'm 99% sure it's John that's playing and he is only mentioned on 1 of them (The Heart Gently Weeps)...

After hearing this song first and finding this topic second, I would be more surprised if it isn't John on this song, than if it was.

i disagree with the journalist (or blogger) that said it sounded like john. my girlfriend bought me this record for christmas and i listened to the whole thing several times. john is my favorite musician in the world and i honestly didn't really think of john at all while listening to any song or guitar part from the album. i think that after reading someone else say it sounds like him, i could listen again and think "oh okay i get where they're coming from" but without that idea being put in my head, it simply does not exist. my opinion is that someone heard the song and had a thought that wasn't completely unreasonable, but is nothing more than a random thought.

Mr. Frooshontay,
I didn't mean to be appearing as anymore than a John Frusciante fan such as yourself. I also have listened to John for many many years, and I based my assessment that it was John playing guitar, on exactly the same thing you did... my ears. It is pretty cool that a musician that we both hold in such high esteem can sound different to each of us. I based my assumption that it was John, on the minute errors, that weren't corrected out of the guitar parts, and also the note choice and tonal quality. I think its really cool that you hear it differently. And ultimately, I suppose it really doesn't matter who was right.... but it very well could be you.

It's funny because my girlfriend, an avid RHCP fan, thought it was Frusciante right away when she heard Gorgeous. I didn't necessarily think that the first time I heard it, but once I read the blog, it kind of clicked. The choice of distortion and pace seemed a lot like John's style.

I've never heard this song before, but I really like it. I don't think it's John, I think it's RZA. I've read in places that he's heavily inspired by John.

Yes, I have to agree. If it is not John playing, it is someone trying to sound very much like him. And doing a good job.
