I got this problem today, i was playing my bass and (i don;t know what got me) i figured out i'd just flip it to see the back of the body, and when i did this i heard a loud cranky boom and then a constant buzz from the amp. Now, i don;t know if it's the amp or the bass, thing is it's not the cable for sure - i changed it and still the problem remains. The amp doesn;t any longer emit the notes i play, just that crazy buzz which is influenced by the volume knob.

I tend to think it's a circuitry problem from the bass, in which case i don't know how i can fix it, but i'm gonna try plug the bass in a friend's amp see if it's not the amp ( but i really doubt )

Any of you guys know what might have happened or had similar issues? Should i start looking for another bass?

Sounds like you blew the amp. How loud was your volume?

I don't play bass myself, I'm a guitar man.

Definitely try it on another amp as there's no reason your bass should be damaged.

I think that the ground wire in your bass popped loose.

that might me the onl thing that makes sense, since you flipped it over. The constant humming might be caused by your not grounded circuit in your bass guitar. This should be easy to fix.

Take the pickguard off, look for the black ground wires, if any of them are loose, solder them back on.

If not, you will need to take it to your local shop, and they will charge anywhere from 20-40 bucks to do it.

Be careful around the tone pots though. If something is lose on one of those, you need to take it to someone to have it done. If not, you risk frying them, they are very delicate.

will be, I don't really have a screwdriver right now so maybe I'll borrow one tomorrow from a friend and take the pickguard off see what's happening out there. Really hope it's no big deal, I'm tired of playing forcedly unplugged.

I have one at home, but here ( in my school town, where i live right now) i don't have any. So I have to either take my bass with me back home on Sunday, or politely ask a friend and sort it out tomorrow.

Plus, screwdrivers come in all sizes so it's not that insane not to have the right one, though at home i have one i bought for a music store specially for guitars and basses - i used it to tighten the pickups on the bass.
