You know what's awesome? When your favorite forum crashes due to lack of enough bandwidth because the Admin decided not to take your suggestion of deleting the thousands of inactive accounts and also not backing up the site data. Yeah. Great. <_<

/rage

Coincidentally, it used IPBoard too.

That's a syndrome called I Run This Place And That Means I Know Everything.

Such syndrome is common in amateurs.

So true. That describes him pretty accurately.

This is the 6th time his forum has crashed as well. I mean really, you think at some point the guy would figure out how to do things correctly

It also depends on the server. This forum and the site were on a really bad server in 2005 and nobody in the hosting company believed me when my users and I claimed that after 2-3 pageviews, the site disappears and does not resolve. In January 2006, a couple of customers on the same server complained about similar issues, and they moved all of us to a brand new server.

If the place is really, really busy, your friend could try something like cloud or clustered hosting, perhaps even VPS?

Also, it's probably not a good idea to gossip him - all you have to tell him, tell him straight. Otherwise, you might hurt his feelings. Amateur or not, he's human. :)
