i was listening to the first residents record today and i noticed another influence
especially this song.
sorry, i don't want to be one of these people, who analyse every single bit of johns music. i just think it might be an interesting recommendation for somebody who likes john's playing on these songs. (and i don't like it when people think that john is some crazy genius and everything he does is something that he invented and something completely new. in my opinion he's a sophisticated artist, who has the ability to absorb and reinvent in a great way)

JohnFruThomas, kudos for noticing it! I was wondering what the constant reuploads were about and I thought it was a glitch so I didn't bother to check it out.
Also, I revisited Talking Heads' "Fear Of Music" after a couple of years and paid more attention than before. I do see the similarity in the patterns of music itself, but not the vocals.

john taylor from duran duran?!!? wow
duran duran has some really good songs.
wesley willis,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Willis, did a great cover of girls on film for the duran duran tribute album.
willis was a paranoid schizophrenic who wrote music on old casio keyboards. not all his stuff is great but he does have some interesting work.

"God forbid John the musical genius (which I admit he IS) ever date anyone. He’s not allowed! And God forbid a creative and talented person like Nicole ever wants to make music, perform, and create and finds people who want to join her because she’s a woman who’s not famous and people don’t know who she is so she must not deserve it? And God forbid she ever dates any famous musician, she’s not allowed because of course girlfriends (aka women) just screw everything up. Just because you’re a woman (I’m taking it Kate is a woman) doesn’t mean you can’t be speaking some internalized misogyny.
I understand if people don’t like it. I personally do, and I think it’s very joyous and free spirited so I am hoping that it energizes John’s musical batteries, like a good nights sleep. Even if you don’t dig it, I hope you realize that if John is having fun and making music, then there is a good chance he will continue to do so and you very well might like the next project.
But it is very playful, a quality I think is underrated, and I think you can give Nicole credit for that. So screw the haters!"

I just thought that everyone who's labelling the project as something HE is the creative coordinator of, which HE CLEARLY ISN'T is using it as an excuse to label him as crazy. You see, using the eccentricity of a project where he's lending a hand is some sort of a proof that he's gone gaga....just because the album will be called Man Meat etc. I hope that makes sense.

well, he IS an eccentric guy. I think whether it's purely his project or someone else's, though, there's no point in saying someone's gone ga ga over some music. If you don't like it, it's not an excuse to call someone crazy. Eccentric doesn't have to be a bad thing. Like people who give themselves heart attacks trying to fit into what society says they are supposed to do are any more sane than John is. So what if he has some fun? Music is the best kind of fun, unlike his days with drugs, it's not going to hurt him to make some music, y'know?
But I'm seriously sick of the type of comment that Kate gave. Sick of it. Girlfriends make things go to shit my ass. And I think the misogyny ties in to why they don't even care about the factual misrepresentation by making John seem to be the main creative director of the project. They can't even give Nicole credit for her own artistic vision.
I re-looked at them. the chart attack one doesn't seem to make fun of the title. the other one kinda does by saying "you'll laugh - it's called Man Meat"...but what if I said to a friend....my favorite song by John Frusciante is called...you'll laugh "Your Pussy Is Glued to a Building on Fire?" What's the difference? Nicole SHOULD be given credit for her artistic vision, but I don't feel comfortable with your angle. Because it's like saying "well, John isn't ga ga because it's not his idea, Nicole is really the one who is crazy."

And as for John being crazy/eccentric - of course he is. I am, too. Pretty proud of it, to be honest.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. The Big Lebowski
