"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

Got 2 I quite like:
You just never know when somebody's gonna die. It could happen at any moment so you've got to really treat everybody that way. Just really let everybody know how you feel about them.
As far as my solo record, I don't want a gold record or anything, I'm happy to be small and to have the people appreciate the music who really like me for being me.

It's so funny how he says it. It's rather deepish also
From a 2006 interview.
Edit: Another one, from Rhcp fan site twitter or something:
"Because I'm pure inside, the music that comes out of me is a life-giving thing. Like water."

Hahah you'd be a total hypocrite to say:
"If we ever think we know something, we don't really." You have to be uncertain about that if you're gonna say it!
It's like existentialism. You can't order someone to be an existentialist. "Think for yourself!" Doesn't work...

It's not hypocrisy. It's also been said by Descartes - the one thing we can be sure of is doubt. It's more like a play on words - if you're sure of one thing, then you don't doubt it. Not really hypocrisy. Frusciante didn't say he's sure, he said he "thinks". I don't see hypocrisy in that.
Agree that you can't order someone to be existentialist. But since when was existentialism imposing on people to think for themselves? Existenialism implied that people are forced to be free, hence are forced to think for themselves, since God does not exist ( or does not exist anymore ). But this is off topic anyway...

I wasn't calling Frusciante a hypocrite, I was saying it's not just funny how he says it, it's necessary. You can't really be assertive when making that kind of statement. Chillax, bro.
(As far as the existentialism goes, people only think and decide freely when they realize they're free to think and decide. Sometimes that's not the case.)

So we both misunderstood each other. I was saying that the way he was saying it was funny, not the sentence in itself. You're correct then, I thought you were calling him a hypocrite or something. Agree on existentialism, though many people never realize they're not free until they accept supreme responsibility, which they never do.
Edit: let me make this one clear : they think they're free, but they don't accept supreme responsibility, hence they're not free. Just to make it clear, because it's quite ambiguous.
