- Niandra LaDes cassette is a very expensive item. It contains two tracks that the CD album does not and it's an obvious rarity.
- Another item in John's back catalog that will always have a high price is the 1997 Estrus EP. Simply, only 500 copies of that 7" vinyl were pressed and offered through the Internet in 1997, this was a notoriously dark period of John's professional (and likely personal) life and elusive items are collectors' obsession. There were some record collectors unrelated to our little circle of fans stating that this was the most valuable item of their collections!
- The other item that might reach a significantly higher price is the 7" vinyl single from November 2005, featuring John and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's instrumentals 0 and 0=2. This item is a part of a 12-single collection released by Gold Standard Labs and it might often be offered together with the other 11, as a collection - thus increasing the price.
- Another rarity would be a vinyl of the soundtrack for Vincent Gallo's film, Brown Bunny. CD, however, should not reach any sick price.
- Smile From The Streets You Hold should not cost you more than 50$. I saw some sold at almost 300$ and that clearly is a scam. Some copies of this CD leaked through various sources related to Birdman Records and despite some people claiming otherwise, they are original. Also, there were two pressings of this CD. Japanese pressing might be a bit more rare.
[Pictures will soon be added to help you recognise the original CD]
- Japanese and Taiwanese import CDs cost slightly more than North American and European editions, but usually, they should not reach a price above 50$, minus the shipping costs.
- Ataxia's AWII CD is NOT a rare item, despite many claims. You might not be able to get it in North America, but it's available in Europe, as there was a second pressing! http://www.amazon.co...visiblemo00-21/
- Ataxia's Automatic Writing I and II are both widely available as vinyl LPs. A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence vinyl isn't that hard to find either.
- Shadows Collide With People, The Will To Death, DC EP, Curtains, The Empyrean and especially Inside Of Emptiness are a bit harder to find on vinyl. There's no indication if SCWP will ever get a second vinyl pressing, but the others have been on some sort of a waiting list for a long time. As of January 2012, the word is that they will be pressed again. Check this thread out for updates on it, if any.
- John's first three solo albums are not available on vinyl. Don't bother looking. The first and third are, however, available as cassette tapes as well.
- Going Inside single is often seen with unrealistic prices, just because CD singles are not likely to be eligible for a second pressing. I personally wouldn't advise you to give too much for it, there always are nice people who'll charge you its realistic value.
- John Frusciante EP (featuring three tracks from TROWFTD, various promos, "CDR accetates" and the like - the price depends on the retailer. Look in multiple places. If it comes with a number, google that number.
- None of John's long plays apart from Smile From The Streets You Hold should cost you more than any other CD. Niandra LaDes had a couple of pressings so far - in 1994, 1999 and 2006. The first and second have to be looked at closely in order to determine which is which, while the third one is easy to recognise as its cover is grey/white and not sepia.
- John's Internet album was NEVER officially released. If anyone's selling it as a CD, it was home-made and you don't want to be scammed. Same goes for the acoustic and demo versions of Shadows Collide With People as well as a couple of other things.
- There's no such a thing as The Will To Death featuring a couple of unrelated tracks - another scam.
This thread will be regularly updated.
