I've been a huge fan ever since 2006, when I saw RHCP live and witnessed the magic that is John Frusciante. I had always "liked" RHCP before then, and even really loved the album By the Way. But i didn't realize how much of it had to do with John, and to what level his magic/genius actually went. Someone had made me a mix that included 2 John solo tunes... Wishing (from the Will to Death) and The Sides (from Ataxia - AW). I had already really liked those, but still didn't quite see it. But that night, seeing him in person, making music, and just shining brighter than anything I've seen before....
That same night I was in such awe, I decided to buy The Will to Death from itunes (because I needed it right away). That is all I listened to for the next several weeks. It totally blew me away. Very very soon after that, I completed my JF solo collection. I bought more albums on itunes, but then later I realized I needed to have a physical copy, so I re-bought some of them on CD. Although it's been only 4 years, I feel like John's music is a part of me that will never leave me, and has always been there. I put him up there among the very best that ever lived, like Beethoven, Neil Young, Radiohead, and Duke Ellington.
But you all already know that.
I play and write music myself, and so much of what JF does and what I read about him saying about his approach to music and recording just makes so much sense to me. He is a huge inspiration for me, at the actual musical level, and at the more philosophical (musical) level. I've never met him in person and it's hard to say anything about him personally, but we all know that's not important. He is an artist and I love his art - that is what matters.
I've been going to invisible-movement.net for a few years now, but i never registered for the forum until now. I use the same username on several other forums online, like the rust list (Neil Young), atease (Radiohead), Via Chicago (Wilco), Us Kids Know (Arcade Fire), and the RHCP board that's linked from the official site.
I look forward to being a part of this board. I'm not a huge crazy poster who posts several times a day (or even every day), but I guess I'm more of a lurker for the most part, finding information and links to live recordings etc. That said, sometimes there is an interesting discussion and i'll be all over it.
So... hi!!
