i bought the 57/62s and had them put into my strat today.
I can say i'm completely satisfied with my sound. its gorgeous!
Its 100% vintage strat tone. I'm playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe behind a Trex MudHoney distortion, ibanez dl10 delay, and EHX memoryman w/ hazari.
I love the clean neck sound. Gorgeous! The bridge sounds perfect, and the middle is as balanced as ever.
All three pickups are neck pickups, just as Leo Fender intended all strats to be.
I'm completely satisfied!

What do they use today? Are the middle and bridge made different to the neck pickup?

I have a 2003 Mexican strat with ceramic pickups. They sound decent enough to me.

John uses seymour duncan antiquity pickups, and he uses the closest thing to vintage as possible. This means that when you are buying your pickups, if you want either the Frusciante sound or the real vintage sound, you have to get them in the original configuration. Meaning, three neck pickups, no special middle, no special bridge, just three plain old neck pickups. In the 1960s, fender did not do reverse winding, nor did they make the bridge hotter. Their was absolutely no difference in the three pickups on a strat except maybe an extra wind here or there done by a human who lost count. I have a vintage 1962 strat that I don't take in public anymore, and a vintage spec strat that a guy here in missouri made for me. The only difference is that I used NOS fender parts instead of true vintage, and duncan pickups instead of vintage. Yes, there is a difference in tone, but the three duncan neck pickups are closer than anything fender has.

If you wanna save yourself a few bucks and use fender parts, the '57/'62 pickups that fender makes are damn good, I have a set of those in my fiesta red amvintage.

Are you sure that he just uses 3 Neck ones?

Ive read somewhere that his middle pickup is wired in reverse way.

Not a 100%, but since John is a vintage nut, I would think that he would be using 3 neck pickups.

Umm I still contend that it is not good idea to buy 3 neck ones. Cause I definitely remember that Iver read his interview about reverse polarity at middle pickup he uses to avoid humming,
moreover you can find alot of same meanings in web.

If you install 3 necks you'll got a noise. I haven't try it but its my opinion.
Look, are you sure that 60's fenders had 3 same pickups? May be it makes sense to install necks to neck and bridge positions, and buy one with reverse polarity for middle position??

Gonna order antiquities soon. Want to make a right choice:)

I have 3 necks in both my guitars, I get no major noise or humming in my guitars. Call duncan, warmoth, or even fender and they will tell you the same thing about the pickups. Really, it depends on your guitar. Fender constantly reused parts, especially pickups, pots, and switches. In the 1960s, some guitars used 3 pickups that were all the exact same, some used a rw/rp middle. However, no matter what, all three have the exact same ohms, wire gauge, insulation, turns, and all are wound by hand.

They started doing rw/rp in late 1960, but they kept using pickups from the 50s for a long time. Mine are all 3 exactly the same.

I get no noise out of my new 57/62 pickups.
The ceramic MIMs i used to have in my strat were really noisy, they're are subpar compared to these in sound quality.
