I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. I remember when they had like 17 friends on MySpace and now, ugh, their music's beautiful and they've been playing a lot of shows around LA. And just in case not everyone is in the know, Emily Kokal sings and plays guitar in the band. It's really dreamy and kickass at the same time.

Exquisite Corpse:
1. Stars
2. Elephants
3. Billie Holiday
4. Beetles
5. Burgundy

Produced by Jacob Bercovici and Warpaint
Mixed by John Frusciante

The last two songs I've never heard of, so I'm super-excited :headphone:

They started selling their EP and some handmade t-shirts at their shows two nights ago, but I have yet to hear if they will let people order them through the mail, which being outside the state of California will force me to do ASAP.

This might be an unusual question, so sorry, but it really caught my eye when a friend showed it to me the other day.

Why do they have the star of David as their album artwork?

In the center of the back cover? I have no idea. Maybe it was an accident, maybe they just thought it looked cool?

It is in the middle of the front cover...at least it looks like that.

Haha, I edited my post after I looked back at the photos at the same time that you were posting yours.

I have no idea if there's any meaning behind it.

I wonder if we'll see more EPs and LPs mixed or produced by John. It'd be cool, but I like him making and recording music (solo, colabs, rhcp) more than mixing (for other people). What do the rest of you think about John as a producer/mixer (is mixer the correct term? :headphone: )

I'm sure he did a great job mixing this ep, but he would never just end up mixing. but anything he does with music is awesome because...he's john! haha.

anywho, I really really really want the ep! i LOVE warpaint. stars is to die for... :headphone:

If someone could PM me with a link to downloading the EP, I would be completely grateful as I LOVE Warpaint's ambient, amazing sound! :headphone:

Tut-tut!

They're an independent band and most likely without a label, so it would probably be so much cooler if you waited to buy it once it's available for order.

sorry for all fans...i mean. warpaint isn't basically a bad band or something. it's just my personal taste . so. maybe i will get into them later. i also didn't like Radiohead first (because i only knew "Creep" :D ).

I don't think he'll be doing mixing all the time either... John probably wouldn't have done this if he hadn't been helping Emily.

And seriously, please don't download it. You can download the songs that they have that aren't on this EP, like the demos and stuff that you could download off their myspace at one time or another, but they deserve to be supported!

I agree, though; just like Adam, I'm not into their music and I think their lyrics is odd (perhaps I just don't understand the whole subculture they're associated with, sorry!). This is one of the situations where we have to play fair. :)

Well I'm kind of into recording/mixing, nearly as much as I am the music itself, so I'd definitely like to hear how he performs in that regard. It's obvious from his recent interviews he'd probably take a more creative approach to mixing than most would.

I think "mixing engineer" is the professional term. Fuck it though, "mixer" is good too :)

Wasn't John also going to record and mix the debut album for Mikah Sykes, this guy who went to the same high school as Emily? Does anyone know if anything came of that?

He did record Mikah's album, it's been out for quite a while now, and is very pretty :)

No, they broke up sometime in spring 2007.
Apparently, they're now just friends.

okay, it might sound very terrible, and i don't want to say that it's true, because i DON't KNOW...

...but i have a strange feeling that Emily kind of...used John to get attention for her Band...because Warpaint is kind of...very famous among JF Fans all over the world and people are ready to buy their album just becaus john mixed it (okay, they also like the music, but they discovered them through JF)...

i would like to hear some objective (!!!) opinions from you about my thought.

I don't think Emily used John at all. She could have used him, if she wanted to. It comes naturally that people who like John know and like Warpaint, it is normal to discover bands through artist we like and then decide if we like it or not. Not all John fans are keen on Warpaint's music. I personally like them and don't care if he is dating Emily or not. I don't know Emily, but she doesn't seem the type of girl who would use people for her own fame. I actually think Warpaint doesn't advertise themselves enough. But this is only my opinion, everybody is entitled to their own. :(
