:thumbsupsmileyanim: What's up all!

This is sort of a new member post, however, being that it pertains more to John's music than my membership on the forum, I believe it belongs here. I'm a relatively new Frusciante fan. I just started getting into him around the time that he released the Empyrean. I've been a long time fan of RHCP (I'm 20, so only since the release of Californication - a pretty long time for me). Even before I was into the guitar, I always thought (being a vocalist myself) that his backing vocals were the backbone of the band.

So I suppose I should get to the point.

I have been trying to accumulate as much of John's work as possible.

Apart from all of the RHCP, I have:

-To Record Only Water for Ten Days (CD)
-A Sphere in the Heart of Silence (CD)
-The Empyrean (CD)
-Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt (CD)
-Smile From the Streets You Hold (CD) (just ordered this album from eBay, literally in the middle of typing this. Brand new copy, $43 dollars shipped. I couldn't be happier about spending the money - it has been sitting in my Paypal balance unnoticed for months)

I'm happy to think that I have a pretty formidable physical collection for a new fan. Later this week, I plan on going to a local record store to purchase a CD copy of Shadows (They just notified me that 4 copies came in last Friday).

So, obviously, I've listened to more than what I've listed above as purchased hard copies. I do maintain, however, that I don't feel as though I've really had the experience of listening to the releases until I have them in my hands, can listen to them over and over in uncompressed, high quality audio. (Vinyls are next.. for fun. =P) I have not listened to all of the official releases, even. I'm working my way up to it all.

That's the purpose of this point, mainly. To ask all of you Frusciante experts, "Whoa, man... What am I missing, bro?"

Essentially, I would like to know the full extent of the music that John has made available to the public, how it can be obtained, and if it can not be obtained, how to listen to it?

Additionally, any information that you can provide me with, as well as essential interviews, or tips on becoming well-versed in the realm of John's work, would be much appreciated.

Basically, help me become a better fan. Anything and everything will be appreciated whole-heartedly and examined with the greatest of glee and attention to detail.

Sincerely,

NewCreature :flowers:

Have you checked out the front page of Invisible Movement? [link at top of the page]. There's a video archive with interviews and videos..obviously..and a separate section with interview scans and transcripts. I haven't checked it out myself for a while..but there's all sorts of stuff you'd find interesting there. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Hi. ;)

What hope said is true. You can find a lot of things on the site and if some sections are password-protected, that only means they have not been completed yet.

John has some material that's available for free. It used to be on his website before it turned into a blog. When the official site went down, I temporarily put it all on this website. It's been here for a while.

You're also going to need this:
http://www.yourforumisgluedtoasiteonfire.n...?showtopic=4305

...and a couple of other things I don't have any moral obstacles about, so I'll PM them to you.

As for everything else you said, please, don't come up with phrases such as "better fan". The term "fan" has gotten pretty ugly in the last 15 years or so with the whole internet expansion. There's nobody who rates us based on what we know, how much we know and there's probably many people who know things they should have never known. Just relax and enjoy the music. :)

Also, I remember being introduced to way too many of the albums you're talking about in a single year, 2004. I remember going through them one by one, moving onto the next one only after I've digested the previous one. I recommend that. That way you'll like them more, discover odd notes and hidden things on each listen...it's fun!

Iva,

Thanks so much for the PMs and replies. No wonder this site is such a great place enjoyed by so many people, you are one of the most dedicated admins I have seen on a forum in years! I mean that!

I would thank you by PM, but I've heard already that you don't check your PMs very often. Probably a wise choice. 8]

I do check them...I am just scared of them sometimes and dealing with my day job (freelance design and coding) and I get sidetracked.

And I'm not dedicated at all. I'm a disgrace and 100% sure of it.

That free internet album is a really great collection. DC Ep is one of my favorite records and its usually under ten bucks. I'm right there with you on Frusciante's harmonies man, I've gotten to the point the point where I wouldn't be able to stomach much of the RHCP vocal melodies without his backing vocals.

Please don't say things like that about my webmaster. She's the best! (And she'd probably remind you to judge people lightly.)
"Take that fucking sign down." -John Frusciante

"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante
