Is it worth it to buy a silver jubilee? I found a good deal for a 2550 head and I'm thinking about buying it. If I bought I know I would feel like Im copying john but then again it is a great amp. So should I buy it or buy a jcm2000 used for cheaper?
Also, does john use the jubilee for cleans or is that only the job for the major?
Thanks,
Zach

have you played one before? i HIGHLY recommend going somewhere and playing it at multiple volumes with whatever cab you plan to use (and i recommend buying a good cab, as anything less than great will probably kill the quality of the head's sound).
they're wonderful amps, i got to play one on the 25 watt setting and was simply blown away. the cleans are OK, but nothing like you'd get out of a major. JOhn uses the jubilees for his crunch and distortion tones.
what kind of deal can you get on it? if its over $700 or so i think you should check out a ceriatone 2550 clone. sounds spot on and is $700 brand new

I dont know enough bout the Jube to comment man ... sorry but if ya want another brand id advise a fender hot rod or blues deluxe .. getting a nice john sound .. any tube amp tweaked will get you a satisfied tone .. at the end of the day im a "tone " freak .. getting that right compliments 100 times !!!

^ +1, I'm using a Peavey Mini Colossal (5 watt tube) and I can get a decent Frusciante-ish-edge-of-breakup sound when I turn it up. It doesn't sound half decent at low volumes, even with the power sponge in my opinion. So yeah, I reckon a decent (small) tube amp should get you in the ballpark - no need to get a stack that you probably won't get to crank (assuming this is for home use). But if it's a really tasty deal, you've tested it and are in love with it, then go for it!

Has anyone heard the mini Marshall Jubilee stack? They aren't tube, and I doubt they sound great, but for around $350 does that sound like a good deal?

Yep, its a solid state version.
The jubilee is only a good investment if you are REALLY into playing and have a place to play it. Tube amps sound great when they are cranked up really high. When you have them turned down really low, they sound pretty plain and boring.
25w of tube is alot, more than enough to play a 100-500 person club.
50w of tube can easily power you through an entire gymnasium or small outdoor venue without the need of microphones.

So it's not designed to sound like a 25/50?
Do SS amps sound about the same no matter what volume level then? (i hope that makes sense.)
I have a JTM 60 and I only get to crank about once a week when I jam with some buddies.

no its not designed to sound like a jub. and they dont sound very good at all IMO.
SS amps will remain clean at very high volumes (unlike tube amps which get that sweet sweet breakup and saturation at high volumes)
i love jtm 60s!
