at the time when the collaboration albums were announced by orl-productions, they also announced an american Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group tour
one show is already revealed: may 2nd @ highline ballroom in new york http://www.highlineb...bio.php?id=1420

considering that omar usually only plays recent live material live (during his solo tour in march 2009 there were songs from xenophanes & solar gambling, which both came out at the end of 2009) and that the records were recorded not a long time ago, i could totally imagine John playing these shows with the ORL-Group.

What do you think?
In the end we'll just have to wait and see, but i would recommend everybody to go to these shows, if you can (even if it turns out that i was wrong)

Thanks for the heads up mate, thats in my calendar now. If a ticket comes into my grasp I'm there but I don't expect John to strut from one coast to the other. You never know though!
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to always tell the difference.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this possibility. Cathy has announced two ORL & JF releases for April, and is being overly secretive about the ORL Group line-up for May 2nd, claiming it's a "little something something." Seems to me like Frusciante will be performing as ORL Group, along with Juan, Marcel, etc. Probably Ximena as well.

edit: I have 4 tickets.

When did April come into play? Do you have a link to a tweet, formspring question or something? Looks like I missed the mention of the exact month!

Can't find the exact question on formspring, as it won't allow scroll down at the moment, but here it was as posted in Comatorium:

Quote

Are Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and John Frusciante currently working together on a new album?

no, but we are releasing the two they did together in April

Yes'm. Of course, this may mean just the digital releases in April, and vinyl probably in June/July. Also, there was mention a while back about a digital-only release, so one of these may be subject to that, though I hope not.

(...)
I've been reading a lot of those speculations on the Comatorium, and though I still encourage everyone to attend the show (if you're able to), I doubt that John will be part of it. Below you find the setlist of the European tour of the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group back in March 2009, and there were only 3 songs that were released later on the 2 albums mentioned in the quoted post (while Victimas Del Cielo was released on the live album Los Sueños De Un Higado, September 2009):

Boiling Death Request A Body To Rest Its Head On
Victimas Del Cielo
Dyna Sark Arches
Las Flores Con Limón
La Hysteria
Locomocion Capilar
Here The Tame Go By
Population Council's Wet Dream
How To Bill The Bilderberg Group
Jacob Van Lennepkade

New York City

On the other hand there were 6 songs off of records already released, so that invalidates the argument Omar only plays material live he has recently recorded.

Furthermore we have no information when the albums with John were recorded (until they will be released, hopefully the editor's line will include the information). Cathy from Sargent House has said she has no information about the recording date.

So it looks like it is nothing more than rumours that John will be part of the ORL Group show in New York. I think it's a good idea to attend the show if you're interested in the music or if you want to experience excellent live musicians, but don't go there only because you expect Mr. Frusciante to perform.

And finally some answers Cathy gave regarding the albums with John (and the tour):

Do you happen to know if someone else is featured on the ORL + John Frusciante collab?
one album is just omar and john
the other is the quartet which is omar, juan, john and marcel

The albums Omar recorded with John are going to be released separatedly or at the same time?
i will give information when it's ready. Some things are left to be found out - enjoy surprises. I do

Do you have any idea what Frusciante is planning for the months to come? Omar + Fru tour?
I have no idea of any of John Frusciante's plans

Do you think we could expect the first Omar album with John to be coming out sometime in April? I've been waiting for this collab for such a long time!
I don't know still waiting on the masters to be done so I doubt it but then again I love the sneak attack release so you'll just have to watch and wait and see

Are Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and John Frusciante currently working together on a new album?
no, but we are releasing the two they did together in April

Do you have any idea of when Omar recorded the albums he wrote with John?
not specifically they have recorded many things over years

Feels like time for some Omar+John teasing... maybe some art or a tracklist? :)
yea, then it wouldn't be a nice sneak attack release.

Omar and John always make fantastic music when working together (from what I've heard of them) so can't wait for an album to be released.

Basically i agree with you, and i didn't want to spread false speculations, i even mentioned in my 1. post that, of course, i might be wrong.
But i have another view on the setlist.

Boiling Death Request
Victimas Del Cielo
Dyna Sark Arches
Las Flores Con Limón
La Hysteria
Locomocion Capilar
Here The Tame Go By
Population Council's Wet Dream
How To Billd the Bilderberg Group *
Jacob Van Lennepkade
New York City

out of the 11 Songs they played, 6 were completely new (not released at the time of the concert).
Las Flores, Locomocion and New York City ended up on Xenophanes and Solar Gambling.
then there was that live EP from the tour, which featured live version of these songs + victimas del cielo.
La Hysteria remains unreleased.

*why i added "how to bill...":
The basic riff of the song has already been released on omar's "old money" record, which was recorded in 2006, but the version played during this concert is a totally different and new version with lyrics and new parts. i would call that a new song (like when rapid fire tollbooth became goliath)...
also remember omar's work ethic, which he expresses in almost every interview, of not repeating himself etc.

Quote

Furthermore we have no information when the albums with John were recorded
i heard that they were recording together in fall 2009, i think it was even mentioned on i-m.net:
"So, I assume that it's the right time to say that a bunch of people emailed this website during the second half of the summer to say that the guys were recording" - January 04th, 2010
of course we don't know if the records are a result of these sessions, but the last 4 of his releases on sargent house were recent material.

Again: i don't want to spread false rumors, i just want to explain why i believe what i wrote...

Yes, I noticed that in your first post and I did not want to accuse you of spreading false speculations, but rather point out to not take John's performance for granted by dessecting the past setlist. With Omar's work ethic of not repeating himself that might be pointless. Though it looks like we both agree with Fabreeze :) And thanks for mentioning the possibility the albums were recorded in fall 2009, I have missed that information.

Being a fan of both of them, I can only agree. To me the GSL single tracks are something special because they are what I consider to be a collaboration of both musicians (while other songs "only" feature one of them being complemented by the other). An entire album with songs like "0" would be a dream come true, though I'm pretty sure they can amaze with completely other things as well.

Not trying to spread rumours, just because I'm curious: Do you think the Omar & John album will be instrumental only or with vocals?

Two more questions answered by Sargent House during the last days:

omar and john collaboration 2010?
which Omar? which John? boring question

Will Sonny Kay be providing more kickass artwork for the Omar + John albums?
yes

The first answer shows what happens to repetitive questions
For your information: Sonny Kay is responsible for the artwork of the recent albums by Omar Rodriguez Lopez; if you're interested, check out http://rodriguezlope...ns.com/catalog/ for an overview.

Another question answered by Sargent House yesterday:

Will John F. be singing on either of the new LP's or will it be all instrumental?
no I don't believe he is singing on them, I still have not gotten them back from mastering. I have not heard them all yet

I know this isn't revealing much  But if you're anticipating the albums, it's a tiny heads-up and I think you can assume it will still take some time until they will be released.

And once again, because I'm curious: Do you think the Omar & John album will be instrumental only or with vocals?
