Alright I have a shitload of questions... some may be stupid but I am kinda a gear noob haha
First question...
I use a DS-2 and WH-10 into a shitty line 6 amp...
I have the desired settings on my DS-2 and WH-10
If I'm using a clean sound on my amp, the DS-2 and WH-10 both boost the signal A LOT
I know there's been a bunch of topics about the WH-10 boost and I think a line selector is the best thing to fix that? Am I right? haha
Also is the only way for the DS-2 to be the same volume as my amp, to lower the level setting? I like the way it sounds now but it's just way too loud.
Next Question
This may be reallllly stupid
I know john uses 4 (edit: I mean three hahah) full stacks... but how does he switch to the one he wants to use for a specific song? Is that what Dave Rat does in the back? Like for a specific song he'd change the amp?
Also does john use his pedals in the effects loop or the normal loop?
Next
I want a new amp...
I'm gonna sell my gibson les paul (I use a strat and IMHO its 1000000x better) and buy one
I'm deciding between a vox ac30cc2x (with alnico blues) a fender twin, or a marshall half stack (jcm 800, 900, 2000)
In your opinion what should I get?
Thanks,
Zach

im going to do my best to answer these questions.
1. first..a line selector can def help you. the boss ls-2 is an AMAZING pedal for this job. in fact, this pedal helps answer your other questions as well. but first, you can use the ls-2 to control the volume of your wh-10 and ds-2. you can also put them in the same loop, apart from a separate loop of pedals with diff volume settings. changing the level on the ds-2 could work, but i find it changes the sound of the effect a lot.
2. the last i saw, john was using 3 stacks live? im not sure how he runs them..i thought the one silver jubilee and the major were running in stereo, with the second jubilee used for the les paul, white falcon, etc. my guess is he chooses between the amps with some sort of line selector. dave rat def is not sticking john's input into a diff amp between songs.
im not sure what you mean by "effects loop" and "normal loop" john runs his signal through a lot of different pedals all in diff loops. he can select different loops with...TADA! a line selector (loop switcher).
3. unless you plan on playing REALLY loud, i dont advise getting a half stack. the vox is def a good amp. if you want a marshall i'd check out their combo amps..something like a 2266c, or even a jtm60. it really comes down to personal preference though.

Well I never seen a lineselector or any equipment in that ballpark among Frusciantes gear... But I think there are these options
He may run his 2 jubilees in stereo, because he uses one of his jubilees in the lead mode..
or the Jubilee(normal) and the Major in stereo
I doubt that me runs his Major in stereo with his jubilee as his "main amp rig". because there is alot of talk about how Majors literally explode when an OD or distortion is run into it... So having Johns use of distortion in mind I doubt that he runs his Major in stereo as his main amp rig...
but again. When he had a Jubilee, a Major and a Fender Blackface Showman in his rig, he used his Fender with his gretsch and then he might run the jubilee and Major in stereo.....
But actually I don't have a clue about it
there are so many options...
But a Jubilee on lead channel is "The tone" for Can't stop!

Do you play gigs or bedroom volumes?
"Take that fucking sign down." -John Frusciante
"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

A Les Paul is not ''better'' than a Stratocaster, nor is a Stratocaster ''better'' than a Les Paul. I recommend you to keep your Les Paul for versatillity in case you ever want to play Led Zeppelin, Gary Moore or Creamie Clapton
About your amps, I'd say go to someone who has that particular amp an crank it. Because they all have different overdrive sounds, same goes for their cleans. There are huge very noticeable difference between them ")
And never forget your guitar skills, cuz you suck even if you had s'worlds greatest guitar rig but don't tha fingers:)

Thanks for the quick responses!
Hedegaardo1: What does it mean to run your amp in stereo??
fenderfunk14: Thanks for clarifying about the line selector! Also, we havent seen john choosing between the amps, so how does it he change it?
How does john not get the signal boost when he uses the wh-10 or ds2? There's no line selector on his board...
Frutastic: Sorry, I shouldn't have used the word better. I find that the tone is too thick and the neck is too chunky. The guitar also weighs a lot. I find the strat really versatile.
Also for a half stack.. does it work well for bedroom and gigs?? Can it still sound good quiet in a small room?

im sure john has some sort of footswitch to allow him to pick between different channels/amps/boards. its not a very interesting pedal so i doubt it shows up on most pedalboard lists/pics.
he doesnt get a volume boost from his ds-2, wh-10, or any other pedals probably because he has a ton of buffer pedals on the board

How much would you be selling the Les Paul for?

As far as how John switches stacks, you're looking for something along the lines of this:

Does he switches stacks with his Boss CE-1 just like here? http://www.guitargeek.com/rigview/576/

The CE-1 feeds into the two Marshall stacks to provide stereo chorus. He isn't switching between the two Marshall stacks in that diagram, he's using them both at the same time with chorus. In that diagram he would switch between the Marshall stack & that effects chain or the Fender stack and that effects chain. See the two plugs at the very top of the diagram? That'd be where the switcher is attached, probably just an A/B switch.
