Just out of curiousity, does anyone know any practical use for these things apart from aesthetics? On a sidenote, I think they look pretty ugly too I would never use it with my Stratocaster, apart from the fact that people always complain about how difficult it is to play with them on.

I would be happy to play with one on as the sweat from my hand is eroding the bridge !!!

i think they're a pain in the ass, palm muting is impossible, and i always knock it off when im playing.

i guess it's there because people thought the tremolo bridge was unsightly back in the day.

sometimes i throw one on my tele, i think its cool how it covers the bridge pickup. ive heard people say it has a slight shielding effect, but i doubt it. in any case, i always get annoyed with it and take it off

So basically it has no practical use, apart from making your guitar look different. I don't think I'll ever use one, although it would surely help to stop my toxic sweat from eroding the bridge saddles even worse than what they are now.
