"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

But those ones who are out there know what good music is about and that good music often isn't commercial.
I think John knows that there is a "small" number of people who really appreciate his music.
It's sad that his music isn't appreciated enough, but I don't think that he wants to be another Robby Williams.

Could it have been frusciante? If so, That's pretty hypocritical since he has been on mtv quite a few times. Not that there's anything bad about that imo. Im sorry but i don't agree with your statement about "good music" since that is a highly personal view. I had your view before but now that i don't i find i enjoy music and life in general more.

Regardless of what we're focusing in this thread - whether it's sincerity and commercialisation of music or the size/engagement of an online community; it would be extremely foolish and childish to take everything the way it appears to be at the first glance. In both cases, we're talking about complex things that just cannot be described with a mere number or some quote from god knows when.
Community engagement can only be explained by analysts or, in some cases, people who actually run those communities and know the size of some others.
Determining what "good music" is would be extremely subjective.

Yep it has been Frusciante.
That's true he was on MTV.
But the point is he does not want to be there just to be on MTV.
That's how i interpet that.
Before someone starts to say: "oh he knows everything that Frusciante said by heart"
no i don't
I agree with both of you it's very subjective what I said about good music, so I should clear up what I meant.
For me music which is only made to sell records and to make money isn't too much of good music.
It seems like music without soul.
The rest is a thing of personal view, like you said.
I didn't want to say that only Frusciante's music is good, I listen to much other music, too.
But you have to admit that Frusciante's music has more quality in many ways than other music.
His techniqual style of playing music is quite good, not every guitarist can play like that.
He seems to have a lot of theoretical music knowledge.

I agree with you to some extent about mtv. There's a greater chance i'l enjoy music made by musicians playing to make good music, rather than someone whom's #1 priority is being seen on mtv.. That being said, there is some music i enjoy wich no doubt was made just to be popular. And i see nothing wrong with that.
And yes i agree that frusciante's music has lot's of qualities. He certainly knows what he's doing, and i can certainly be very touched by his music. Some people can't. Millions of other people get touched by, let's say, britney spears or another marketed stars newest single. And the emotions people get isn't less real than the feelings we get from when listening to whatever artist of choice we like right? I think the music should be judged, not the way it was made, marketed or anything else not related to the artwork itself. Different pepole see different qualities.
But i don't listen very much to mtv or any other source of music. But sometimes there's a really good song and i can enjoy it..

And what offa said is what I agree about. Music is music and there's no use discussing the taste.
Also, 10-15 years ago, MTV was good. There were no crappy reality shows, all jingles would be made by aspiring authors, there were VJs whom you didn't want to shoot. Oh, to be 12 again and watch MTV Europe for the handsome VJ Ingo...

And I absolutly agree with you
I think you formulated it quite well and hit the point.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean with "typing line breaks" it would be nice if you could take yourself time to explain me further on what you meant.
I think it won't be any problem to stop typing line breaks if I would know what you mean
You can PM it to me or however you want.
