I own a fender roc pro 1000 tube amp head and I wanna replace it with a Marshall because the tube drive channel dosnt respond well to my gain pedals, it makes them very quiet and muddy for some reason but I tried my friends Marshall and its drive channel with my ds-1 and muff and its just awesome

So my question is does anyone know any good Marshall heads (used or new) that are under $500?
Thanks

a Marshall lead 12 mini stack
I would get one because there relatively cheap but I'm looking for a 100 watt 4x12

Well...obviously not all Marshall amps are the same...and you gotta ask yourself 'Do I really need 100 watts? I'm not sure you'll be able to find any decent (subjective) heads for under $500...

his old fender was 100 watts so i guess he knows what hes getting into

i do have a question though. have you ever had your fender head volume past 6 or 7? that could be some of the reason for the crappy distortion tones you're getting. you really need to heat up those tubes to get good tones, and most people can't get a 100 watt amp up to those setting inside of their house. with that said, it makes sense that you would get better tones out of a 12 watt amp.

sorry if i insulted your skill/intelligence...just asking some questions

^ Me too :/

I thought SS amps don't sound that great when turned up?

Anyways for $500 I reckon you could find a used head on eBay or Craigslist if you keep looking

Check Craigslist, you won't find anything new for a price like that.
"Take that fucking sign down." -John Frusciante

"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante
