i have a squier classic vibe strat and fender standard mim strat and i run them thru a boss ds-1

so when i play with the fender i have to have the volume of the ds-1 all the way

but with squier i have to keep it at half way

why is this? diffrent pickup outputs?

and when i run the squier thru my amp its very bassy sounding and when i run the fender on the same settings its very trebly
i prefer the trebly fender because it have more sustain and attack then the squier bassy-ness

but overall i love the classic vibe guitar not a fan of the fender
but i like the trebly ness of the fender
would a good soulution be replacing the pickups in my squier?
i was thinking maybe putting some fender tex mex pickups in them
if anyone could help thatd be great

there just different guitars. just like how john has a bunch of strats. they all have different sounds. but i wouldnt change pickups. leave em if you like them

didja check how high the pickups are away from the body of the guitar:P

All pickups are different. Some are hotter, some are more trebly, some are more full and bassy. But with your squier, your pickups are probably too close to the strings making them really loud, causing you to turn down your ds-1. I would suggest posting pics if you can or just lowering the pickup height on the needed pickups.

Your Squier has AlNiCo pickups and your Mexican has ceramic pickups. Ceramic has more output. While your Squier is more Vintage voiced. Overall AlNiCo pick-ups tends to sound better on higher volumes(According to my ears). About the sustain on your Squier. Check you tremolo block. The one your squier has probably a lower mass. Just change that light block with a steel one. Will probably cost thirty dollars or so. To my ears, the Squier Classic Vibe will EAT any mexican made Fenders. Except for the Classic Players. Although... By the what's your amp?

John uses Duncans in his sunburst strats. In many places it is said that he uses those: http://www.thomann.de/nl/seymour_duncan_ss..._california.htm but maybe he uses the antiquity ones.

I am sure, that he doesn't use the Texas Hot ones. He uses low output ones.
