maybe you guys can help me in a way. I want to get a tattoo. I wasn't sure about what exactly for a longt time. But now im sure about it. Well not really. I want something that expresses that life has nights and days. Happy and sad...you now.Ups and downs. Crying and smiling. God and Evil.I really like the one john got on his left arm. I would love to get it but i don't want to copy it. So if you guys may can help me with ideas i really would appreciate and maybe get it done on my arm or elsewhere!!! Maybe it suddenly comes into my mind what it could be but for now i would love to hear some other thoughts or tips.
peace out

That's first that came to my mind, but I'll think about it a bit more, and I'll let you know
Anyway, you can bring the picture of that John's tattoo, and ask a tattoo artist to change it a bit, to work on it..

of course ying and yang came to my mind too but im not convinced about it. In the moment it's a bit to...to...i don't know how to say it in english. It's not impressive enough uhm...not really what i mean. It's to obvious or simple. Bye the way i know to many people with ying and yang...
but the idea with taking the picture and change it is a nice idea. On the one hand it's ...no i don't wanna say to much. But im looking forward on more opinions and advises.

That's pretty weird, I was getting high maybe 2 weeks ago, in the middle of a golf course, and the topic of tattoo's came up and this guy asked for suggestions. 2 people each gave one suggestion each and they were the same as above, the theatre masks and the yin yang symbol.

my point is that there are a lot of people out there with that shit on them permanently. i suggest really taking the time to think about this. what seems like a good idea one minute is terrible the next. honestly, you'd probably be better off getting john's tattoo. it would probably mean more to you. i've certainly never run into anyone with it, whereas what i mentioned above is commonplace.
make sure you get it a decent size. smaller tattoos turn into fuzzy blotches quite easily.

yeah thats why im not really into yin-yang. Everybody has it. I really like the coleman face but it seems to obvios for me . On the other hand it would be great because it represents what i like to get and secondly i have something thats for me connected with johns music which means so much for me. And i never never ever would get a picture of his face on my body. Hm...
I want a tattoo for years but i never did because i think and thought so much about it because it has to be something with a meaning for me which i want to have forever. Tribals and chinese symbols...so boring. Everybody has it.
But you made me feel more comfortable with the original idea. But still not sure...

few years ago, back in 06, when i was researching Terrance McKenna and his software program, Time Wave Zero, I saw a video of him talking about the iching/king wen sequence.
it is 64 hexagrams that essentially resemble balance. like the yin/yang.
McKenna discovered that there was a natural algorithm and used it in his program. it's part of the whole '2012 doomsday prophecy' (bullshit, it's not the end, it's the begining of a new era).
anyways, check out this picture and read up on the sequence itself. i use it for my music stuff in 10N5 and was thinking about getting all 64 hexagrams tatt'd but funds aren't there.

iching
the very odd part of all this is that when you put the hexagrams on their sides and you look at the sequence it looks and reads just like computer binary code. 0100110010 etc
or maybe something by MC Escher? mathmatical.

is this your first tattoo? if so, it'll seem like a really big deal. but yeah. tattoos should be fun. i think way too many people get them in order to prove how deep or badass or whatever they are. then you get a bunch of assholes walking around with maori symbols without even knowing what it means.
the john tattoo would seem obvious to you since you've been immersed in his music. trust me man, the general population is pretty unaware of the world around them. it's not going to be obvious to most.
my advice to you is:
don't get it until you're absolutely sure.
spend a decent amount of money on it. you get what you pay for.

what do you mean with "how deep they are?"
what do you think how much I'll have to pay. Lets say for the same size like john has it done? Not exactly how much, just what you think. Do you have a tattoo? I think so

about 200 - 250 euros, I'd say.
I have a "half-sleve" it covers the half of my upper-arm and I payd about 400 euros for it. anyway, it's worth every cent.
like pinkflag said before: take your time. think about itbe 100% sure of it.

ah let me try to explain it. person X gets a tattoo of, i don't know, song lyrics. that seems to be a popular one. anyway, they have decided to mark up their bodies with someone's words. and this is supposed to signify that person X is an introspective, interesting, and unique. because they really "get what the song means."
i have a couple and am planning on a couple more. the last one i got is in a visible area. this means that people like to talk to me about their "ink" or "tats", and i get a lot of the above drivel. people show me their horrible tattoos that they got done for cheap at a less than reputable place. it shows.
go around to a bunch of different places. make sure they're legal. flip through artists' portfolios before you make a decision. i don't know how it works where you live, but here you usually put down a deposit when you schedule an appointment. the coordinates of my birthplace cost 105 CAD - this included the aftercare cream. my arm piece cost 200. you'll want to tip the artist as well.
i wasn't familiar with how large john has it (i've always been more into a musician's body of work rather than their body art/personal life/whatever) but i did a quick image search on it. i think that size is fine. larger tattoos age better. you don't want to be an old man with a fuzzy blotch on ya.
