On that whole issue, I'm fairly certain that Anthony Kiedis described Dave Navarro as "one of the most sarcastic people I've ever met", or something to that effect. That impression comes off in a lot of video's on the internet from when he was in the band. I think the quote was either from Scar Tissue, although it may well have been from an interview, sorry I can't offer any other specifics.

I quite liked OHM, although it wasn't like a RHCP album, it was something I enjoyed, and there weren't any songs I particularly disliked. I never understood why most RHCP fans hate this album just because John wasn't on it, after all, if Navarro hadn't come in it is debatable whether the RHCP would have survived. (It's also interesting to note how DN helped AK with his drug problems around this time). I totally agree with bryn about his opinion of the ablum and Navarro in general.

I'm sure it was scar tissue.

Someone asked Dave this:
Why John Frusciante never play the musics of the One Hot Minute Album? I Love My Friends and Aeroplane!

Dave replied:
I dunno, probably the same reason we don't do Strays material with EA... We keep it pure and so do they.

Oh, and a little birdie told me that Dave and John might jam together someday....so, everyone who ever mentions any kind of hate or rivalry will be forced to listen to me sing Queen Of The Night from Magic Flute. ;)

I think it's a great album. It reflects the times very well. It's the Chili Peppers carrying on without Frusciante. Anthony's relapse show's in his lyrics. Nothing will ever beat Frusciante, but Navarro gave the band a new heavy, psychedelic sound.

I like the album too. I mean John does not define the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He does make it a great band and his guitar playing is what has made them so successful. But the Red Hot Chili peppers have other members in the band that make great music, which i would say One Hot Minute is.

Exactly.

Frusciante only plays on 5 of 9 records, so he is far from the be all and end all of Chili Peppers guitarists.

And, more to the point, once One Hot Minute had come out he had only played on 2 of 6 records, thus invalidating the argument 'One Hot Minute is not the Chili Peppers because John Frusciante doesn't play guitar on it'.

OHM is my personal fav. Chili album.... It's also the least typical. I understand why folks here wouldn't like it so much.

It's a very good album, obviously it was a very different style but still has some great songs. Navarro is a different style of guitarist but he has a great feel for guitar playing, he doesn't know a huge amount of technological terminology but is almost better for it. Which always baffled me as to why he'd never just jam with Flea, he's so natural you think it would be so simple for him.

I don't think it's a very bad album, but it's not exactly their best, it's probably my least favourite Chili Peppers album after their first album. It has got a couple of good strong songs on it (like Coffee Shop, Transcending, Warped), but it kinda overuses the whole pentatonic/dorian scale (sorry about that, non musical theorists :P ) and some of the parts just drag on too long. And it's not that I don't like long/repetetive stuff (Ataxia and The Mars Volta are probably my favourite John-related stuff), it's just a bit too 'safe' if you get what I mean, as in it doesn't really 'push any boundaries' so to speak.

It's good to see people actually have good reasons for disliking this album instead of the normal, "It's not the same without John" bullshit.

One Hot Minute is my favourite post-BSSM album. I find it heavy, energetic and, well, Dave Navarro is a great guitarist, whether you like him or not.

I wish the Peppers could make an album as unique nowadays, though it's pretty unlikely. I mean, I do listen to their last record, but... :glare:

It's not right to say that the Chili Peppers did only Pop-stuff after Californiacation. There are some pretty good songs on Stadium Arcadium, which are definetely as hard as Calfiforniacation, even Blood Sugar.

I like One Hot Minute a lot, it's not my favourite album though, but I like it. The missing of John Frusciante shouldn't change anything, I mean wouldn't it be weird to be listening to records with John Frusciante only?

This is the order of my favourite chili peppers albums

By the way
Californication
Stadium Arcadium/Blood sugar
Mothers milk
One hot minute
Freaky styley
Uplift mofo
Red hot chili peppers

I love all the albums for different reasons so please dont read this as the ones at the bottom I dis-like, its just I really love the ones at the top.
The list does show that its not my favourite album but it definatly has its moments. Its another chapter in the fascinating history of the chili peppers and due to it being more melodoic and phycodelic than BSSM I think it allowed the beautiful moelodic albums of Cali and more when John returned.

... "Stretch" has got to be one of the coolest songs from the album (even though it wasn't released on the album). "One Big Mob" is very Red Hot Chili Peppers IMO.
I love One Hot Minute!

Fleas vocal at the end of Deep Kick is steller. I really enjoy this album. I find most of the dislike for this album stems from Dave but subconsiously I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people assume the Chili Peppers hate this album too. Anthony down talks it a lot iN Scar Tissue and I found ever since that book came out it got worse and worse reviews. People just taking Anthonys opinion and making it there own. Not to mention the fact that Frusciante refuses to listen or play any OHM songs
Somewhere in between the sludge was a poorly written tattoo of a Chili Pepper lyric I saw on a cheerleader in high school.

One reason i really enjoy this album is because flea is a lot more active. His vocals are one thing i really enjoy and that make this album really stick out compared to otherws where you hardly ever hear flea.. would anyone else agree ud like to see him sing a tiny bit more?

it wasn't a well conceived album. its like they were trying to hard and it didn't come out good at all. some jams on it but mostly crap.

asides from that, i met dave a few times and he's a fucking vain asshole douche bag. only reason i would have gone to see janes play last year was eric avery. other than that, i'll never attend another janes show or buy another one of their records or anything he's involved with ever again. he's lucky i didn't punch him in the face when i met him last and he was a rude fuck.
