I just bought a new stratocaster a couple of months ago and I think it's about time to replace the strings. So I read that John uses D'addario strings on his stratocasters soI thought that I would try those. Am I looking for the 10-46 gauge strings like this?: http://store.daddario.com/category/145784/...lar_Light_10-46 or are they the wrong type? I read in the user's manual that came with the guitar that if I change the string gauge, that I may need to adjust a few things, but i'm not sure what gauge the standard 'super bullets' are...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I'm pretty shure John is using the strings you bought. I also use them and they are awesome.
I think that John is also replacing the E string ( I think the low ) with a 11er string.

Yes his guitars have Daddario 10-46 and the 10 is replaced with 11 but its the highest string (the thinnest) not the lowest. But in position it is the lowest one

putting on those strings makes such a differnece in playing style. a lot better for a funky tone.
was the first thing i did when i got my strat cause the bullets sounded weak.
one word of warning. my strat came set up for 9's. i had to file a bit out of my nut for the 10's to seat and slide properly.
you will also need to adjust you intonation. google it and you'll find a how to guide for intonation. will make a huge difference

I'm pretty sure that Fender site contains all information you need about the strings your guitar comes with. When I faced similar problem after buying Epi acoustic, I found the info on their site in no time.

When changing strings use this method: http://www.victorgann.com/GuitarTools/Chan...angeStrings.htm It stays in tune much better and longer that way. Basically it works like locking tuners.

yeah, fenders come fitted with 9's. so it will pull your bridge up if you put 10's on without making any changes. these are small changes though.

yeah maybe easier to get a shop to do it and set your strings up (with proper intonation and bridge position) the first time, BUT here is a guide from ultimate guitar that I used to set up my own intonation.

I actually use the same D'addario strings as you guys without even knowing capt. frusciante used them. They are great though, I have never wanted anytjing else.

Yeah, in the end, I gave my guitar to the people who sold it to me so they could set it up properly....I'm such a guitar newbie that I didn't even realise that the standard fender strings where apparently pulling the bridge up!

My Classic Player 50's strat is fitted for 10's.

Changed to these strings yesterday and they really do sound and feel great!

I had to add another spring to my trem when I went from 9's to 10's, so just a heads-up there.

If your guitar starts as a 9, and you change it to a 10, it isn't that big of a deal. If your guitar starts as a 10 and you change to an 11, same thing, not a big deal. However, if you are jumping from 9 to 11, or vice versa, you will need to make some setup changes.

Just curious, any of you tried the D'addario coated EXP 110s? Like the Elixir coated more expensive ones, but with the feel of the EXL110s.

Keen to hear if you notice a difference in tone/feel etc?
