look it's maple. it's 51 years old, it's a little dark (keep in mind they were tinted darker in the 50s and still are tinted to some degree (minus the made in mexico standard series fender strats). also, it has BLACK fret market dots on both the sides and the top (which you can see on the 3rd and 12th frets). rosewood fretboards have white (or clay, if you're talking 59-early 60s) fret inlays. whole rosewood necks do exist, but they are aftermarket aside from a few exceptions (the george harrison inspired rosewood tele), and will never have black dots because rosewood is too dark to see black fret markers. sorry to get so specific, it's just that as a fender history buff, it's hard to hear someone make an argument that is clearly not valid. if it's NOT his 57 strat, so be it. it is NOT (100% sure on this) his 62 strat. still, based on the grain and the contrast of the b&w photo, i'd put some serious money on his 57.

There was great controversy as it was a very short show which was not good but there was a storm coming in and John wasn’t feeling that well. But it was one of the best shows I have ever seen… and I saw a few shows on that tour and this one was definitely the best!
