Guidelines

  • Include the date of the show, venue and similar details. It is very helpful.
  • You can post the review here or email it to me. Once the gigography section is completed, it will be on the site.
  • Make sure your review focuses on the actual show, what was happening and your feelings: not a whole story of before and after (unless it is relevant) and one line about the show.
  • Criticism is OK but please, don't be rude, don't bash...if you're writing about a show where riots occured or where John or another performer was ill, watch how you word it.
  • If you would like to add setlist, photos, scans of a guitar pick or something like that to the review, feel free to.
  • Please, write like a human being: with proper capitalisation, apostrophes, line breaks wherever needed. Also, elipsis' shouldn't appear after every couple of words, unless it is somehow necessary for description of a particular moment.
  • If you're OCR-ing the text, watch out what has come out of it.
  • In general, proof-reading after you're done helps a lot.
  • Save your file in UTF-8 to avoid any possible conflict between platforms.
  • If you think your English isn't good enough, I can always find a native speaker to proof-read it...OR you can ask people from your country who are better with English for their opion. In fact, that's better.
  • If your review is in another language, it shouldn't be a problem as someone else can always translate it.

Here's the review I wrote for the RHCP show I went to a couple of years ago. Iva, you already have my pics and such. And there's more a more informal review of the show in the Nashville thread.

On January 17, 2007 two of my friends and I went to Nashville, TN to see the Gnarls Barkley/Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. The three hour drive and three digit hotel bill was completely worth it, as watching these two bands perform live is the opportunity of a lifetime. The concert was held at the Gaylord Entertainment center in the heart of the music district of downtown Nashville. The venue usually houses the Nashville Predators ice hockey team. But for the concert, the ice had melted and a stage was erected in its place.

As soon as Gnarls Barkley hit the stage, a surge of energy rippled through the crowd. As per usual, Gnarls Barkley came out in costume. In the past they have been known to dress as Star Wars, or The Wizard of Oz characters. This time it was Austin Powers. For the night, the band was not Gnarls Barkley, but Shaguar, a swinging sixties band with two backup singers, two violinists, and cellist. Danger Mouse was dashing dressed in Austin Powers' trademark blue velvet suit, and Cee-Lo looked diabolical in his Dr. Evil get-up. Their set was an hour long, opening with "Go-Go Gadget Gospel", and closing with their smash hit "Crazy."

Soon after Gnarls left, The Red Hot Chili Peppers entered. Flea, John Frusciante, and Chad Smith took the stage jamming on the bass, guitar and drums respectively. When their jam came to a close, Frusciante began playing the intro to "Can't Stop" and Anthony Kiedis made his entrance singing the first verse. The crowd was on their feet, and as far as I could tell, no one sat down the rest of the night. After "Can't Stop" the band began playing their first single "Dani California" from their latest album Stadium Arcadium. Their set list included six other songs from their recent album, as well as a compilation of their older hits like "Californication," and "By the Way." The Peppers also covered several songs including The Ramones' "Havana Affair," and Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground." Instead of playing "Under the Bridge" during the encore, the band opted for another one of their ballads, "Soul to Squeeze." The concert ended with a highly improvised and audibly stunning rendition of their infamous song "Give it Away."

The concert was nothing short of amazing. Both the audio and visual aspects of the show were executed flawlessly. It was obvious that both bands enjoyed every minute of performing and, not unlike myself, never wanted it to end.

Set List:

Intro Jam
Can't Stop
Dani California
Scar Tissue
Charlie
Havana Affair
21st Century
Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Bass and Conga Solo
Throw Away Your Television
Snow
John solo ( How Can I Tell You - Cat Stevens )
Desecration Smile
Higher Ground
Wet Sand
Warlocks
Californication
What is Soul?
By the Way

Encore
Drum Solo
Soul to Squeeze
Give it Away
