Can anybody comment on the difference between the new USA muff and the vintage ones?

Basically, the trend with Muffs has been that newer means better sounding and more reliable. (This is true about the Big Muff Pi itself, not alterations of it. The Little Big Muff Pi is horrible.)

"Well, it was put to me by "that guy" when I was, like, four. So I went into my parents' record collection and found a rock'n'roll compilation. And when my mom asked if I wanted to move to L.A., I said, "Yeah," because I knew that was where the rock stars were. I was seven. Then when I found punk and listened to the Germs, I started seeing how I was part of this. I remember being out on the baseball field when I was 11, and I felt like such an outsider. Standing there in right field, I started making up an angry punk song in my head, and I went home and wrote, like, 20 songs in a row. I realized it didn't even matter if I knew how to play guitar yet." -John Frusciante

Yeah, but they were hella unreliable for it, and germanium really isn't the right feel for a Big Muff Pi imho. Don't go vintage, man.

the last thing he used instead of the big muff was a Electroharmonix English Muffin'. You can hear it also on the studio version of "Especially In Michigan"

he also used it on enough of me or one more of me

but instead of the Big Muff he uses a fuzzrite (its on the left of the DS-2 in the pic)
