The old thread was closed, but everyone's free to view it for references and for how the project was coming along before 17th January 2008:

Ok first how do you connect to listen

Taken from my page at stonecoldbush.com http://www.stonecold...tent/view/44/1/

Quote

JFRadio is born from an idea I saw on www.invisible-movement.net where a guy was suggesting that the community starts its own station. I now have a spare pc and decided to look in to the idea.
So far I have set up a playlist player with the ability to have a person remotely connect and take over the stream to run their own DJ spot. (email jasonrhl@gmail.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if interested)
To connect to the stream you use media players such as windows media player (WMP), winamp, itunes or something similar.

You can click here to start the stream or

For WMP and winamp you connect by going to FILE - OPEN URL (keyboard shortcut CTRL+U) - enter http://jfradio.servemp3.com:8000/dj1 . the stream should start buffering and you connect.

For Itunes you connect by going to advanced - Open Stream (keyboard shortcut CTRL+U) - enter http://jfradio.servemp3.com:8000/dj1 . The stream should start buffering and you connect.

Now the next bit.

Where do we go now?
I was thinking of a dedicated website hosting a mini help forum for users and DJ's
A chat box for when a DJ is online so the dj can take requests and just chat to listeners.
Now playing stats..
DJ's playlists.
email group (to notify people of a dj being online)
Set up DJ's with a voice chat system that will allow people to talk online. May be MSn or Gtalk or something similar
Online street team to tell everyone what the radio is about.
Online timetable with DJ slots

These are just my ideas and I feel they will take a while to implement. I was hoping that may be some people out there can may be suggest ideas and tell us what direction do they see this idea going.

I have had 3 people approach me to become Dj's which is great (3 more than i expected) These people have come on with good enthusiasm and I feel i have let them down a bit with my progress on the radio system. I am just learning all this stuff and am not a programmer (well trying to program apps to show online statuses)

Currently the system does.
Plays a playlist from my server that streams 24/7 (except when it has a grandpa moment)
Allows DJ's to take over the stream and start Djing.
On Stonecoldbush you can see the currently playing track from the playlist stream.

So please dont be shy. have a say. Listen to the station. Tell me and others what you would like.

First of all I, as one of those checked how everything is working, am not let down at all! Really. I think that everything is really great! Need some development but the idea and the way everything is going are great.

Okay. To my mind the very first thing is to make a schedule for DJs. As this will be agreed and broadcastin' will be "alive" then everything else may be added in some time. I think that while the system for interacting with listeners is developing it is possible to make radio interesting with some things like:
- first of all stoping of broadcasting John Frusciante only. To my mind cool thing about the radio is that you don't know what will you hear next, and even more cool thing about it is that this next thing may be your favourite song. So, if you hear what you want all the time then it is noting different then to turn your WinAmp on. I think there has to be a lot of good music (I may give a list of what I think will be okay to broadcast) and simply more Frusciante and Red Hot Chili Peppers then usually.
- making numerious jingles;
- news. Some music news recorded and broadcasted once a week or more often (some time later it has to be more often) would be cool I think.
- dedicated programs. Thematical programms dedicated to some artists. Once a week for the beginning with repeat one more time for those who missed it.

These things arn't that difficult to make and I am full of energy to complete all of the things I listed, but before of that schedule should be created. For everyone to know when they have their parts of people's attention.

So you understand - The Robot stream i run is basically the theme to all the music i collect RHCP and Frusciante. I dont buy anything else :P

Jingles. well this could be fun..

News - Spectacular idea..

:(

We need to work out a way to make a timetable that some how can be used no matter where you live in the world. I could say 7pm AEST and you would go what time is that for me? Do you know of any web source code that would allow us to make this universal? Should we have a GMT clock on display and work on that?

Actually I can what is where now with ease cuz I use Mozilla Firefox and have some extension that makes it like that. About web source code... At the moment I don't. But I think I can find it (or something like that and remake it). All I need — the certain demands to that code. Formulate them and I'll make it ASAP.

I think that everyone who takes part (as soon as there are not so many of us) should write the suitable time for him in GMT-format (that would make less space for misunderstandings) and share with others. Because of works/universities/private lifes we have. This way we'll have some spaces of time when DJs work and other time the server will work. I think that we'll definitel will cover weekends and probably some time of workin' days.

And while it will work like this we'll work out solution for online timetable and other stuff.

Idea is okay, but I can help with Russian only (actually with Ukrainian also, but I doubt there will be anyone who will need it). I don't know more languages. :(

Some people get troubles with connecting using Windows Media Player. It starts loading and keeps like that forever sometimes. My own media Player doesn't want to open stream at all. I know there is not a lot to do about, but thought it is important to notice.

It would be great if people would try to connect with WMP and tell if it works in their cases. :(

I have been uploading a dvd lately. So may be that is affecting them.

I have had 100% success with windows media player 10.

Yeah it worked with me. I opened the player alone, and then opened the URL via "Datei...' in the upper left, don't know what it's called in english, and then 'open URL'. I find the idea fantastic!

The jfradio project is sort of over.

There was no interest for some reason :)

may be because no one really ever listens.

I now just have a simple 13 hour playlist running.
Have tried to get the whats on to work on iva's site but for some reason it doesnt like us :)

Thanks for interest. If you want to hear playlist please visit stonecoldbush.com and click the listen link up the top right.

Shame that the project is sort of over. I only joined recently so only found out about it now. Anyways I do like the idea and hope something can be started up again in the future.
