Ok, so this is a spin-off from the pinned thread at the top of the musicians section.

http://forums.invisible-movement.net/index...?showtopic=1931

So- Mother's Milk
Here's what little info is on John's official site:

"A Fender Strat (year & Model type unknown) and mostly Ibanez guitars were used during Mother's Milk.
Producer Michael Beinhorn had John's guitar layered throughout most of the tracks, which adds to the fact why the typical Frusciante sound we know today isn't really on this album"

The Strat, if it's the same one used on BSSM, looks like a 60's model to me. It has a rosewood fingerboard, which was introduced in 1959/60, and it DOESN'T have the ugly chrome bullet thingy for the truss rod adjustment, which was introduced in 1971. Can anyone tell if it has the small or large headstock?, as then we could narrow the year down. The large headstock was introduced in 1965.

Help, I know nothing about Ibanez guitars. Check out this video though, it's Johns first EVER gig with the chilis. Some of the posters mention the guitar in the comments.

John's Wiki page says the Milk Ibanez was an Ibanez RG250. Can anyone confirm this?

If anyone has any info on the amps of this period(same as BSSM?), that would be great.

There's not much info on this period out there so anything will help, thanks.

during the mothers milk tour, he also used mesa boogie amps for a short time (the rack can be seen on psychedelic sexfunk live from heaven!)

Mainly he used for MM an Ibanez RG(...)
After MM he began to use Strats, first strats from the '70 and later from the '60 and '50.

On tour he started out using Mesa Boogie and he also used a Gibson Les Paul as can be seen here

Later on the tour he started using Marshall, maybe JCM800? , and it looks to me that Strat has a big head stock....

And even later than that he started using Marshall Bass heads, not?

Welcome Lennart and thanks!

Thanks Adam and Martin. I think it was a large headstock alright, which would make it a late 60's strat.

My browser keeps crashing when I go on Youtube, so I'll check out thise videos later.

Anyone else got info on this period?

Alright then, not much out there from this period.

Guitars:
Ibanez RG
Late 60's Fender stratocaster

Amps:
Marshall JCM 800
Marshall JMP-1

Also used on tour:
Gibson Les Paul
Mesa Boogie amps

I guess that's that then <_<

(edited- I included the JMP-1 Kallee linked to in the BSSM thread, it's in a video from 1989)

No, I'm pretty sure they're the same. Maybe it's just the odd stage lighting in the first video that you're seeing.

Check the video at 1:29. It's the same guitar(black).

And in later interviews, John says that he hated using the Mesas because it was too confusing. And I do believe he has more than one Les Paul, because there was another interview where he said he had just bought another Les Paul, and I know it was after the Octupus tour.

The Les Paul he used at Psychedelic Sexfunk is a Custom 69 Les Paul, like this one, except I think it has 3 humbuckers.

You must remember this video was filmed at different times, in some of the shots the crowd is empty, in others full, in some John is playing LP, some a Strat.

No, no, don't cry. :) The point is that we're making something rather than totally copying what someone else wrote.

That said, you're very welcome to help.

the mesa boogie amp he used was a stratagey 400 power amp, but i have no idea at all what pre-amp he used for it, he used this set up for the recording and first part of the tour untill he swapped to mesa rig with a marshall jcm 800 2203, he then added more marshalls , another two 2203s one was a Jmp from the 70s the other a jcm800, then the tour finished, as for guitars he had an late 50s early 60s strat (3 tone sunburst) as seen by the small headstock, then he had a 70s strat (3 tone sunburst) because of large headstock, he had a black 60s strat (taste the pain video) he also had a gibson black beauty (3 pickup model) for the tour. the Ibanez was an Rg... and the pedalboard was his boss ce 1 ibanez wh 10 (grey) and his boss ds2

thats about it i think.... i might be wrong in some areas, but if anyone knows the pre amp he used for recording with the mesa power amp,, please post because i have NO idea which one it is

I found a pretty good view of Johns MM era live pedalboard and it's something i haven't seen before, there's no CE-1 for example and there are two other pedals, one seems to be a DOD chorus: (at the beginning, when he swaps the guitar)
