Ok- I'll start the seperate threads. Album by album.

We'll aim for one a week and to keep it simple go in chronological order(solo albums included). At the start of each thread I'll put up a list of some kind copied and pasted from this thread or from other sites(eg: the list Slobodan posted above from from johnfrusciante.com).

Members can then add their suggestions or objections and at the end of the week I'll put together the full accurate(hopefully!)list. If you've got some really obscure bit of information it would be best to have evidence, interview or video, but if you don't, join in anyway.

Once all the threads are completed it would then be possible to put together one concise list of all the gear John has used and give each piece it's own page, as Iva suggested in the first post. But first things first.

Anyway I was thinking it would go like this:

Mother's Milk
BloodSugarSexMagik
Niandra LaDes & Usually Just a Tshirt/Smile From the Streets You Hold
Californication
To Record Only Water For Ten Days
By the Way
Shadows Collide With People
2004 albums
Stadium Arcadium
Solo x :)

I thought it was best to put Niandra and Smile because we don't really know much about either of them. Also I'm guessing roughly the same equipment was used on both.

I also thought it best to put the 6 albums together. I just don't see the need to do these one at a time, it would get VERY repetitive. Some equipment might be exclusive to one album, but that can be specified in the final list.
For example: "Les Paul Junior(borrowed from Guy Picciotto, used on DC EP only)"

I'll start the first threads on Monday. I'll put up threads for both Mothers Milk and BloodSugar. Milk won't take long.

Please keep posting here if you have anything to add about albums we've not yet come to.

This is totally splendid, Adam; thank you! I think it can also be converted to a normal page. Either way, if you allow me to use it, the credit is 100% yours.

Michael, should we consider the Niandra/Smile mostly done as well?

Yeah, I guess so. I tried to start a conversation about the guitars used but that went off on a tangent. So we still don't know for sure. Maybe we'll just say "various guitars" or something. I mean he seems to have had stacks of guitars lying around the house. No real info on amps either. But other stuff did crop up:

Niandra/Smile:

Various guitars and amps
Banjo
Clarinet
Moog Synthesizer

As with all the other sections if any of you see something wrong or disagree, please say so.

And well done Adam, you've given us half of what's left to cover in one post!. Good job :frustrated:

Is this still an option, as I saw that Jean is using it, too?
I'm a bit slow, so I only got to this now.

well jean added the mother's milk era board to my pedalboard thing!

and i wouldn't add the trobadour jam pedalboard to it.
i only used rhcp-pedalboars, because i wanted to do a "John playing with the peppers"-only-pedalboard history.

during the performance shows in 2004 he used different effects just like at the troubadour jam. it doesn't really fit the collection...

The first sentence doesn't mean much to me, as, well, I'm a total moron for this. Either way, I assume that it still means yes?

Also, you just hinted on a similar project for performances and this year's jam so...any chance of doing such a thing? *puppy eyes*

Just do it and do one version with no numbers, so I can make numbers themselves prettier. :)
That would be just amazing.

BTW, I wish you'd respond to my PM.

Cool pic, although that's a one off.
He also used a Fender Showman for the Beginning of cali tour on that stack.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll add those to the final Californication lists.

I think there's been quite a few new muso gearhead types who've joined the board since we started working on the gear section. I'd like to ask them two things.

1: Join in. If you have any additional pieces of info, or if you disagree with anything we've come up with so far, please add your opinion. Every little bit really does help, and I think I-M.net will have a particularily excellent list of JF's gear when we're done.

2: Post in the relevant threads only. If you go back to page one of this thread you'll see there were loads of contributions from members, but it was also too much to make sense of. Or to root out misinformation(and there's enough of that on the internet already!) It all got a bit mental so we decided to go through John's career from start to finish, album by album.

Once each thread has enough info in it, I'll post the finished, hopefully accurate list back in this thread.

Obviously, you can find each thread in Iva's new "Workshop" section :D
