John blamed it to "the usual record label stuff" for it back then (for Shadows) and said he was proud it was finally out on some of the first 2004 interviews; I guess if he's not releasing it, it's rather because he's involved in many other things and projects or it has more to do with his management/record label rather than him not wanting to release it
I mean, if he did it, I don't see why he couldn't want to release it as soon as possible unless, as you said, it's just because he isn't proud of it.. but I don't think so (it could be though, seeing Ryan Hewitt often changed the info on John's album on his MySpace), maybe he's just enjoying his free time after being on tour for so much
Well, as someone who is fond on creating art, you (and many others) will probably be able to relate to what I'm about to say: in most of the cases, no matter how much people praise me when I'd written or designed something, the only opinion I rely onto is my own. I tend to throw many designs for the sites and graphic art away, even poems sometimes; because there's something I didn't like about them, I didn't feel like it was me who created that. As someone who's very creative and does many things, on a much bigger scale, I assume John is perfectionist with whatever he has on his mind at a certain moment: if he wants a perfectly-produced and polished album, he works until he gets something in the quality of SCWP. If he wants to get it done in a couple of days and try someone else's place, someone else's equipment and someone else as a producer, we'll get a DC EP. Regardless of how hi-fi or lo-fi it may be, if it's perfect in his own eyes, he'll feel ready to put it out.
Also, someone on OHG mentioned that John was not THIS big before Stadium Arcadium and that Warner might have "plans" for him and that they wouldn't let him play around releasing indie stuff when he feels like it. I don't know if that could play such an important rule, but with RHCP skyrocketing onto the position of the most popular contemporary band in the world, it could be partly true.

Didn't someone say that they talked to Omar and he said that John was really into making this new album?
Yes, my friend Aylin spent some time with TMV in Paris and that was one of the things Omar said and he also said that he SMSed John for his birthday. I remember smiling when she told me.
yep I understand what you're saying. in fact in some interview Chad said John could come up with like 100 ideas (for instance when he was rehearsing and coming up with new songs for the S.A. sessions) but he only picks up the very best one of them all, and then work on that one
as any other musician/songwriter, I assume he has thousands of ideas/songs/"production-knoledge-stuff" going on on his head, or little things he probably even recorded (just to "catch" the inspiration moment; he said in the JFQ&A-2004 he often work like that when he writes a song, verse over verse) on his Mini Disc Recorder, or pieces of song or anything.. let's say he might have written down 10 riffs: he's only gonna make a whole song out of only one of those ten
and I'm sure when he recorded all those album back in 2004, it's just because he felt like it was time to do it, as you said, he had that creative urge to make them all (the purpose was trying to record as many songs he had written up to then as possible), not because he was fooling around or because that "little"/indie label let him to do it: in fact, highs and lows, I think most of it (not all, obviously), it's all prime-quality material (in terms of songwriting, especially).. and I'm also positive Warner woulnd't have ever allowed him to put out so many albums (especially right a few months after SCWP was released).. and every album is clearly well "conceived" and he surely planned it well, so I agree to the fact he really wants to get things done at best and exactly how he wants them
he was a perfectionist at the times of Shadows but still he was kinda upset by the fact the album was already done and just stayed there on the shelves for more than one year before it was actually released; and John was proud it finally got put out
so, what I want to say is that it's not like everything's up to him, otherwise he could record, just to say, 5 albums in 3 months and then put them out one after the other whenever he wanted to, but things just don't go like that: a clear example was AWII (and when speaking about Ataxia, back in 2004 when he was being interview on AW, he said he had plans of putting out AWII in the first months of the following year, 2005

).. it also has to deal with commercial/label issues and many stuff I don't know, because I don't knowpretty much anything how music industry and the process of making a record work
I mean, if he says "ok, I feel like it's time to release it right NOW, today", (I'm obviously kidding, but it's just to say) probably it will take at least 5 months before it's actually out!
because it goes like that, it's not all up to him
got me?
and it went like that in 2004; TWTD came out after about 6 months it was recorded (dunno about the specific frame of time when Ryan mixed it, though) and in the meantime he did many other stuff; so it could be he's only waiting to get all of his stuff done even this time (in 2008)
and with "his stuff" I mean not only his albums and collaborations/featurings, because he is a human being like any of us; I'm referring to his private life, his free time and all a billion of other things we can't (and we must not) know about him that's going on, so it could really be anything
the only sure thing is that when it will be the right time, it will be out, like any other thing in the world, when it happens it happens
when he'll be interviewed it's really likely he might talk about the album realization project (he did for all albums), so till then we just have to wait
it's only that waiting is killing most of us fan, me especially, I'm sure I'm not the only one!
I know you (Iva) are for the "the more you wait, the sweeter it will be"-thing .. me, instead I feel like things are better when you're not expecting them or you don't even know they're happening: back in 2004 I didnt know he had recorded so many stuff; SCWP was out from just some month ( I still had to "metabolize" it) and I would have never guessed he had so many other music on the way to be released very soon that year, so I just read on his site TWTD was out: I bought it some days after, without downloading or listening to any previews so it just kinda happened so fast to me and I was blown by that... it was fantastic!)
so that's why I'd like the album was out as soon as possible! I'm not blaming John or anyone else, I'm just a fan and I want a new album out, that's all
who wouldn't want to?
about the celebrity/fame thing: it could be true as well, hope not anyway (I'm with Abby on this one)
here's what wondering about John is getting me: boring paranoid senseless long posts! sorry for being a little off topic!
ah, obviously (how many times do I use this word?) this is not a response/attack to your ideas or anyone's, it's just what I think, I don't want to sound rude or prove you wrong or anything (as there's no right or wrong) nor do I want to impose my opinion over anything/anyone.. get me?
